Hi All,

I am just starting to plan my surgery but I would like to start figuring out how to eat like I will post surgery. I am single and so I prefer to cook 1 pot meals. Does anyone have any good recipes that are high Protein, lower calorie, and can be made in a single pot v. multiple items?

Thanks in advance!

Lori

I really loved soups/stews after surgery. Here were some of my faves and most freeze beautifully into single servings for work. Remember, even if it is a regular Soup (I loved roasted red pepper/tomato, for example, you can always stir in some unflavored Protein Powder before you heat it up to increase the Protein level. (If you wait until it's hot, it may clump.)) Also, in the beginning, sub out ground meats for whatever is called for in the recipe.

Some of my favorite no brainer foods that I could make and keep in the fridge:

tuna, salmon, or chicken salad made with hard boiled egg and cultured low fat cottage cheese (replacing mayo) with a dab of Greek yogurt and dijon, some Pickle Juice or relish (which i could get out of mushie phase).

chicken green bean "casserole"--I made up little microwave ramekins with the mixture. Just follow the green bean casserole recipe from Thanksgiving and cut quantities in quarter or half. Add a can or two of drained, flaked canned chicken. Then split up and cover. Nuke just before serving. Add a couple of the fried onion or fried garlics from salad toppers. Yum.

I also made ground turkey and mushrooms and cubed zucchini or baby spinach, and would add a spoon of Heinz gravies from a jar (any kind--I like brown gravy best).

I mostly just did fish, chicken, turkey, shrimp + veg + healthy fat. Super easy to cook your meat in small batches. 1 piece of chicken could last days in the early days. Then use frozen veg cuz easy to measure and weigh and they are mushier than fresh -- until you can tolerate texture better.

Hope that helps.

I have been using the Lekue steamer in my microwave a bunch lately. It is definitetly "one pot" cooking. :)

I can cook fish, shrimp or chicken with some fresh veggies in under 4 minutes. (Can also cook with meats frozen solid- just takes a minute or two longer.)

I Just season the meats/veg any way I like. (Lemon pepper etc.) It tastes so good and it never dries stuff out, so it is easier to eat. When done the whole thing is dishwasher safe, so no cleanup or fuss. LOVE IT!!!

It looks like this pic and can be found on Amazon for about $24 for the 1-2 person size. I will try to post a link....

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
