Well, tomorrow at 7 am is the "big day". I'm a bit disappointed that none of my family has come home before now (it's 9:33 PM) as I have to be at the hospital by 5 AM. :( :(

My eldest daughter flies back to PA tomorrow (mid-day) and originally she was coming with my husband & I to the hospital and then hopefully I would get to recovery before he had to drive her to the airport.

Youngest daughter was going to join us @ the hospital closer to my surgery time.

My husband called and announced that they have made things "much easier" (not his specific wording but the gist)..and that youngest daughter is going to pick up eldest and drive her to the airport so "they don't have to get up so early" and then..after youngest has dropped her off..she will stop by on her way to work.

I am realizing now I'm actually VERY hurt by this. When my parents were alive, we made sure for any major surgery to be there with them no matter WHAT time the surgery was. To make sure we could see them before they went back.

I am...stunningly hurt by this and I'm just now realizing it. My husband and eldest are out drinking beer..they said they'd be home early..but it's almost 10 PM and I need to be up by at least 4:15 AM.

I have been patient and understanding and ALONE most nights as everyone goes and does the usual 'food socialization'. My eldest doesn't get good Tex-Mex where she lives so this was a long standing tradition. I HONESTLY don't begrudge them that..but what is a SCARY and very important day for me...it's like my husband is only showing up as he HAS to be there.

I don't understand my kids..I really don't. You could not have paid me any amount of money to not be by my parent's side...both of them. And I always was.

I don't even have my parents left to be there with me..I know many do not. But I am very disappointed and I feel very very alone.

Sorry, am not handling this well. To everyone else still upcoming in Week 4, I wish all of you the very best!

I know you've been through a lot of trials and tribulations on your long journey to this day. I wish the best for you and hope you have a speedy recovery Karen 🤗

Hi yall! Its post op day 3 for me. My surgery went well with no complications and no additional fixes needed. I stayed in the hospital two days. The second day was mostly at my request since I live almost 2 hours away and couldn't drink much.
I kept having the so full of Water feeling like you'd burst since I got out of surgery. Seemed like a lot of the pain I felt was from gases stuck by my ribs. It was very painful and would come in waves. But they kept me comfortable with pain meds when I requested it.

Last night out of no where my mouth started watering bad like before you throw up and before that it was so dry. It felt like whatever that watery episode was cleared my way of left over gases and I could finally drink more then an oz in 4hrs. I've gotten my oz's up today and drank one 11oz Protein Shake.

Im slowly trying to build up. I'm not sure how much I'm suppose to drink in one sitting at the hospital it was no more then 5oz in an hr. Now that I'm home is it the same or am I allowed more... I forgot to ask the doc. I just dont wanna hurt myself or overfill my stomach. Anywho hope everyone else is doing well!

Just wanted to update everyone! I had my surgery on 7/24! I was supposed to only have an overnight stay, but I couldn’t keep anything down all day Thursday, so I earned an extra day. I was discharged today, and I still have some gas pain. Just trying to walk and sip. Prayers for everyone who still has procedures this month!

Looks like I need people around to complete a 10K.  I tried to do one by myself this afternoon and I gave up at around the 7km mark.  Gonna try again on Friday, but I may have to look into joining a running club...

My Surgeon asked me a question the other day and i didn't give it a lot of thought at the time.
      He asked "do you tell"
we were talking about peoples reaction to seeing me since i lost such a large amount of me.
I answered that i do tell if they ask but that it seems most everyone is afraid to mention it if they haven't seen me in a while or they decided they already know the answer so they don't need the truth from me (we all know those types)
I have had exactly one family friend come right out and ask me how i lost so much weight this year and i told her i had Gastric Sleeve.
I am sure family has passed it around to other family (you have that type family don't you? or is it just me)
So that left me wondering "do you tell" and i dont mean right at surgery time. more like a year or so down the road do you say how or do you just say cut out the sugar and carbs and WAALAA
Its a real personal choice to open yourself up to that kind of criticism and we know all about how we took the "Easy" way and yada yada yada.
hope everyone is having a great week

If people ask, I am open about it

I'm about 10 months post op, and my standard answer is I eat way less and exercise way more (oh, and I cut the carbs by a lot). The only people I told were Mr., the Kid, BFF and my Mom.

People know cuz my sissies have big mouths. And when skinny peeps ask out of morbid curiousity and they are "related" somehow to me, I look at em and arch my eyebrow and smile like, WTF? Then I just shrug and say, "I can neither confirm nor deny." (I've practiced this in the mirror many times. LOL!)

But today, I was talking to a lady in my oncologist's office and she said "Oh don't you love you Surgeon X - bariatric surgeon? I'm in her weigh loss program!" And so I really opened up to her and talked frankly about the program and the surgery and details and how I'm so much happier and healthier, etc. So there has to be a real genuine need and desire for comraderie--otherwise, "Bye Felicia..."
