Dumping Question re better with time?

Recommended Posts

I am only a few months out from surgery. I had dumping form eating too fast and once from flavored medicine that had sugar in it. I have been really strict re no bread, Pasta, potatoes etc. The only carbs/sugars I get are from vegetables. so eventually does dumping get better? From what I understand a year form now I could eat a tiny piece of birthday cake or 1 piece of chocolate on a special occasion. At this point I feel like I am always going to be too scared to ever try it. I am too scared to even try a cracker.

I’m 15 months out and it does get better. I’ve found I can eat most things with no issue if I do it slowly. My three encounters with a small piece of cake or cupcake have gone well. But, I got drunk on a shot of vodka and then ate a pack of 6 donut holes quickly (despite my husband trying to tell me no) and I thought I was going to die. I have friends who are over a year out and can eat anything, but I can’t tolerate any rice, Pasta, and Cereal with milk (all learned the hard way) so I plan to avoid. Even 15 months out I test all foods I haven’t eaten since before surgery at home just in case and then I know what I can splurge on slowly when out and about later. Also, eating too much of anything still makes me super sick — I haven’t hit a point where I don’t have to be super aware of my body telling me I’m full.

I can eat carbs with no issue.” Bad” carbs it depends on quantity , when they are eaten and the day of the week. If I want cake I try to choose one that has whole meal or almond flour and nuts or fruit rather than a big sugary confection. I have had a small ice cream ( whilst on holiday) with no issue but I was extremely nervous when I ate it. Small quantities of chocolate don’t seem to affect me but then there are days where I have a small quantity of something or eat a healthy food like oats and the body decides no. The result is palpitations, shakes, a funny taste in my mouth and generally feeling yuck.

As for alcohol I am now a very cheap drunk. Had 1 glass of sparkling wine last night and had to go to bed as it went straight to my head.

Being too scared to try these kind of foods is probably a good approach.

Everyone is different honestly.. Unfortunately I can pretty much eat what I want.. Sometimes I get a little belly ache but nothing major.. Quite honestly I wish it did make me violently ill.. I do NOT want to slide back down that rabbit hole.. And let me tell you.. You have to stay on top of it because it would be so easy to do!

I really didn’t know if I would dump or not and was very afraid to test the waters then a Think Thin Protein Bar with too much Fiber made me sick for hours ... I know now I’ll have to try things at home as those have suggested. If bread and Pasta and cake make me feel as bad as the dumb bar then forget it.. I’d rather not have it than feel that crappy again.. just my luck the bad foods won’t make me dump.. we will see

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
