Day 3 Post-Op Help

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve surgery 3-27 and am looking for some guidance. I am in a lot of pain all the time. I didn't expect it to be this painful. I'm worried something is wrong. I've been through 2 c-sections and neither one even came close to this pain level. My doc sent me for labwork to rule out a leak and everything looked good but I'm still worried. Is it supposed to hurt this much? Drinking/eating is very painful. The gas pain is even worse. I walk as much as I can and I've been burping and farting for nearly 2 days and it feels like the gas will never leave. Lol I'm also wondering if this pain I feel is hunger pain. Would that hurt this much? I can't test my theory because it hurts so much to drink. I'm definitely not getting my recommended amount of Protein in. How important is that this early on anyways?

I was in terrible pain for almost two weeks. I was sleeved March 11 and I just am now feeling better. I am still very sore on my stomach. Take pain meds if you have them and ice your stomach. Try also taking some gas-x that might help a little. And the hunger pain is real. At least for me it was. Hang in there!! It will get better!

Hi, I had my RNY surgery on March 27th, too. My abdomen is still quite painful, especially on the left under my ribcage. I think pain is normal for 1 to 2 weeks. Like the other posters said, take your pain pills and try gasx. Hope you feel better soon! Hang in there.

Could you be eating/drinking too much at a time, or too fast? I too had my surgery the 27th. The gas pain is the worst for me. But you have to keep moving around as much as possible to get rid of that.

I did find if I took just a little too big of a sip of Water, it hurt!

In the beginning it was very painful. I could not get my Protein in and my dr told me to just concentrate on Water. I actually lived on ice chips for the first 2 weeks. You can live without food for a little while, but your body needs water. Your stomach is swollen right now and needs time to heal. Definitely keep talking to your dr, but know this pain will pass. It will become better soon. Hang in there and good luck.

I’m 6 days post op now was sleeved on 3/26, the first day are the hardest definitely what help is the gas x, walking walking even if it’s like 6-10 times around the house. I used a sippy cup or a coffee cup with lid to control my sips for Water. Try Vitamins zero , Powerade 0 or Gatorade 0, to make sure you get the electrolytes. Be careful with pain meds, cuz it can lead to Constipation (like 5 days, ugh). Also if given PPI(for acid reflux) make sure to take it (cuz it helps along w gas x). It’ll get better soon. Just take care, rest, walk, sip on water/electrolytes. Good luck!

Hi! Sorry to hear you’re in such pain. I was re sleeved on the 27th. Same op. And each time its different, so you cannot compare. I would call your surgeon and ask. My first op was very difficult and painful recovery. And this time.... I’ve walked 5k yesterday already, no pain whatsoever. So even the same person reacts differently (same surgery, same surgeon as well). Wish you the best, but please seek the right help!

Thank you everyone for the replies. My pain is much more tolerable now. I'm able to drink more at a time without the pain as well. It must have just been really swollen.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
