Absolutely, I don't see why not.

If it is okay with your surgeon, some won't even allow Decaf. They fear if they give an inch, you might take a mile, and you are supposed to learn doing all things in moderation, but one little " yuppie", as far as I am concerned, couldn't hurt!

My surgeon says we can start back up with coffee, but to be aware it might cause stomach upset. I've stuck with tea since my surgery 10 days ago. Might try coffee again after 3 weeks. Enjoy!!

I’m back to drinking regular coffee 2+ months out. It’s not caffeinated or Decaf that’s the issue it’s that’s it acidic. There are low acid coffees you could try . I haven’t so I couldn’t say what they’re like

Had mine March 19. Had Decaf coffee and caramel pr pro shake yesterday. No issues, had to split into 2 servings. You’re right, Decaf is not the same though!

I miss it so much lol but I’m actually scared to try regular coffee

coffee with non-dairy Creamer is on my clear liquid list. I've had it starting 4 days post op and confirmed that it did not need to be Decaf. I've done well compensating for the diuretic effect of caffeine.

....but every surgeon is different...

There are three reasons why they say Decaf. One - caffeine hits your system quicker now so you may experience rapid heart rates. Two - caffeine is a stimulant, including a bowel stimulant. You may have to go more urgently. Three - caffeine strips Calcium out of your system and can lead to brittle bones, so make sure you are getting lots of calcium if you go caffeinated. You should be able to go to caffeine eventually, just be gentle.

As for acidic, coffee is about a pH of 5, stomach acid is pH 3-4, so it’s not more acidic, but during healing when you are taking proton pump inhibitors to reduce acid production, it may aggravate the stomach.

I’m 7 weeks out and doing half caffeinated. It doesn’t hurt my stomach, but I can’t drink as much as I use to.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
