Hi

Work just approved my June 17th week off for vsg. I'm hoping I can work the following week, I don't quality for fmla yet. I'm rushing to get everything done but have been thinking about the surgery for 2 years now. I'm finally decided to do this in the winter. I have a pre op to do, plus maybe ekg. Plus read up on what to stock up on etc. Lots to learn, excited/nervous but ready.

Comgrats...

i had mind June 1. Went to work June 25.

I had bad nausea issues port op.

stock up.. well you should have a diet sheet with each stage and what you can eat. I wouldn’t go further then each stage, stages progress based on each person. I went slow, and actually backwards. Like I said Nausea. I had issues probably week 2 onto 3. My stomach couldn’t handle being empty of sorts.

I didn’t eat or drink for like 4 days, had to go to Er for fluids. Got better.

food isnt gonna be the same as before. I suggest to go as each stage goes. Don’t rush it, an issue I have which is better is seeing too much food overwhelms me and upsets me. So buying food is different now,

just go with what your body is telling you.

Fluids are really important even more than food in the beginning.

my nausea is better. If I want to sleep late, I can’t, at least I get up and eat something bad go back to bed. I just had back surgery and was incredibly nauseas cause I didn’t eat. I got over it and forced myself to eat.

Vitamins, etc. very important. If you don’t it could compromise your health.

As for work. You know you can’t lift anything heavy for 6 weeks. Hope your job isn’t lifting.

Good luck going back to work during early stages. I hope the job is flexible cause dinking your fluids isn’t a lunch break job. It’s an ALL day everyday event in the beginning.

If you have any other questions, just ask

remember every persons surgery is different

Thank you. I have a stressful but home based call center job. So I am hoping that I can work as soon as I am off medication. Vitamins are going to be a big issue for me, I love buying vitamins but hate taking them every day. Plus I take other pills too, I hate popping pills all the time but I will get used to this. But I've heard vitamins are critical especially for mental health, I can't afford any relapses or worsening of mental health, yikes. Must take vitamins B12.

U need to take them religiously. I went off chewable 6 weeks after cause I had such nausea issues, much to the fight from the dietician. Anyway u can’t take multi and Calcium at the same time...absorption. So I have a ritual..breakfast, then multi, lunch, calcium, dinner, multi, bed, calcium. U need food in stomach for multi or it makes it upset. I also take the b1 since I take normal multi and B12. I took Iron for while, but not anymore. I get blood work every 6 months to check the liver, pancreas, etc.

thats good you work form home, you’ll be fine then, just keep sipping in between calls. Just be careful not to sip too much and talk, you’ll get air in your belly.

Youll be fine.

Good luck to both of you. Make sure you do a ton of research. I think if I did, I probably wouldn’t have done it.

just know you will need to take Vitamins forever. And when they say Protein is important, it is it you won’t be healthy and could get t sick.

It gets hard to eat and think of protein constantly

Just be very very prepared

good luck

Going to be great for both of you! Wish I had had a sister to share my joys and sorrows with, but I have found a lot of Bari'cousins on Bariatric Pal, so I have filled the gap God forgot to fill. I figure with HIM taking care of the Heavens and the Earth🌏---'my request may have been shunted to the side!😝

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Just go forward one step at a time, the prize is amazing. I had a lap band and lost over 100 pounds and the new life was so much better than any food. You will become a fine-tuned engine and now only give yourself what you need Protein first. I am finding some amazing Protein Drinks to help me along. Good luck and keep us updated.

I just got my date. I'm barely June, but I'm June!

My date is June 27th. Pre-op is May 31st. My pre-op diet starts on the 13th.

I have a LOT of mixed feelings still. Feelings of failure, happiness, excitement. All mixed in together. It's kind of hard. But I'm ready to make the change. I've been considering WLS for over 5 years.

Good luck. Just make sure you read a lot to truly understand the life altering of your body. Also remember that every situation is different, so something that one went through may not be applicable to you.

1 week away. Just started the pre-op diet. How does one keep from tearing peoples heads off? It's only been a few hours and I'm already feeling crabby.

Start keeping a list to keep your sanity! Like the bumper sticker
KILL THEM ALL; GOD CAN SORT THEM OUT LATER!
Keep muttering This Too Shall Pass! And it will! I knew I had NASH, let's see, non alcoholic Steatohepatitis, is what it really means, in lay terms a Fat Liver, so I did a Liver-shrink the entire month of August 2018, for every week you do it your liver shrinks 4%, so mine was between 12-16% smaller for my surgery. It worked, it worked, and my surgeon complimented me on my mini-liver, told me it was as smooth, small and healthy as a new-born calf, once I was certain he didn't plan to sell me for veal, I was complimented for my hard work. But you do turn into a Stormin' Norma foe awhile. Tomkitten, my son, said like the lepers in the Bible he should have been in front of me carrying a sign" DANGER-STARVING MAMA-BEWARE EVERYONE! But it worked, I lost 15 pounds, felt I had done something to be prepared, and it ended well on Surgery Day! And those are lofty goals.

I've pretty much been drinking nonstop. (Sadly no alcohol.) My surgery is the 7th. I get into the office and have all my beverages lined up -- tea, crystal light, Protein Shake. If I'm in the bathroom every 5 minutes, I can't kill anyone. LOL
Hang in there, Stitches!

Hello! My surgery is scheduled for June 20. Insurance doesn't cover it so it's all out of my pocket. I have Type 2 Diabetes and sleep Apnea. I'm 5'5 and weigh 244 lbs. I'm super excited, but also very nervous about the recovery time. The doctor said it would be 1 night in the hospital, and no heavy lifting for 2 weeks but that I could essentially go back to work after 2 days. Upon hearing stories and reading other websites....that's not looking to be true.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
