BessyF50 reacted to FormerUser in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!Hi Bessy,
The best advice my team gave me for this sort of thing is that, when I'm having a craving for something sweet, that I can have a small portion of it, so long as I'm enjoying it with a meal. Sometimes I find that having one fun size candy from the dish at work with my otherwise healthy meal helps me satiate the craving. The other advice they gave me (that also works for me) is to avoid grazing, so to have something to eat every 3-4 hours. If I feel an urge to eat and it hasn't been 3 hours yet, I can be fairly certain it's head hunger now, and I can try to head off whatever other instinct may be causing me to eat.
Hope this helps! It's a tough time of year to be trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle, that's for sure... but I have confidence in you ?

BessyF50 reacted to starladustangel in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!I am 7 weeks post OP and down 27 pounds since the day of surgery (60 pounds lost overall).
I am still stuck on mostly soft foods due to vomit when I eat regular foods. I have another follow up next week but may need to have an upper GI if it doesn't get better ?

BessyF50 reacted to KareBear714 in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!Hey everyone. So I’m one week out from surgery. I had the VSG done on the 28th. I don’t feel hungry at all. Getting my water and protein are hard. But I have been eating cream of wheat which has been a life saver. I don’t have any indication really that I’m full when I eat so I usually will eat 2-3 oz and then stop as I don’t want to get sick. My mom and brother are in town to help me out but I have been focused on keeping them entertained instead of resting. Today my stomach is very sore. Probably because all of the movement. One episode of vomiting of my first night home, but otherwise I’ve been feeling good. Occasionally the muscle under my incisions will burn really bad and I have to sit and rest before I can move again. I also have been having a ton of acid production which has been pretty painful. It feels like an intense hunger pain. But my medication and tums have really been helping. -
BessyF50 reacted to elcee in feeling cold..It’s pretty cold here in Aus atm as we are in winter. I struggle to get warm and am not helped by the fact that our house is large and openplan it’s a nightmare to heat. My hubby always complains about my cold hands and feet, even in summer. However the last 2 days I have noticed that the pads below my thumbs have been looking decidedly blue! I am somewhat concerned and will mention it to my Dr . I am not struggling to breath and my fingertips are fine. I am hoping that it may just be because there is no longer any fat there so it is easier to see the veins through my ageing skin!

BessyF50 reacted to Alvinchicago in Bariatric surgery was a big mistakeI'm only adding this post because I hope someone searching gastric bypass sees it. Everyone must make their own decisions about this surgery, but the overwhelming information out there sends the message that gastric bypass is a good thing. Please know that it is not right for everyone and anyone thinking of doing this should take a lot of time to research both the positive and the negatives. Gastric bypass is not the answer to lose weight. It's not realistic and it's not in line with society. If gastric bypass was just a way to eat half of what you normally ate, that would be one thing. I hate that I did this. I'm so mad at myself for listening to everyone else and not listening to myself. Gastric bypass is a bunch of rules and restrictions that make life miserable. You can't drink when you eat, so you have hours a day with no fluids. However you have to still get in 64 oz of water or you get sick and your weight loss slows. It's ridiculously impossible unless you look like a fool carrying a water bottle around all day long! Then there is the vitamins and medication to protect your stomach. I never took a pill before this surgery and now I'm supposed to be taking almost a dozen a day. Who has time for that? Then there are the limits to what you can eat, not just how much. Try going anywhere and it's nearly impossible to find something to eat that you like and want . Nine times out of ten you have to eat something you can eat, not something you want to eat or even like. I'm literally choking down food I hate just because it's the only thing I can have. Again, I have to pack my own food anytime I go somewhere or just not eat all all and I look like an idiot! What forty year old do you know that carries a lunch box around everywhere she goes? I didn’t pack this weekend when I went to my daughters lacrosse tournament and I paid the price because there was not one thing I could eat even though there were six or more vendors and food trucks! We don't have family dinners any more, I sit in another room to spend my twenty minutes eating four lousy spoonfuls, Mother's Day was ruined because for the first time in 21 years we could not go out to breakfast or take my own mother out to dinner. I sat home alone on Memorial Day and skipped the family BBQ all because of this surgery too. I can't be around normal people enjoying normal things because I'm not normal anymore. Just chewing the food for a ridiculous amount of time and waiting twenty minutes to eat four spoonfuls of something makes me look like a fool. People actually stare and waitresses ask if something is wrong. Yes, something is wrong! I’m angry that I was not told that life was ruined by this surgery. I was never told all of the rules, restrictions, or possible side effects. Every appointment I went to was about what questions I had but no information was given. How could I have questions about something I was obviously so poorly informed about. It’s my fault because I did it I’m stuck and my life is ruined. There have to be others out there that feel the same way so I hope they step out and share so people who are thinking about this surgery can see both sides. This surgery is a money maker for surgeons and it’s advertised way to much with a positive slant. Hindsight is 20/20! If I knew then what I know now I would have gone to Weight watchers and a gym and never ever would have done this. This surgery has ruined my life!

BessyF50 got a reaction from ARMoma45 in June 2019 Surgery Siblings!I did it, June 17. It was tough for 3 days, I was wondering if I will stop feeling pain. But then today I managed with no pain. Getting used to the new food schedule is difficult, but manageable. Wow hunger pangs can be really strong tho, can wait to progress to real foods. I need to make sure I get my vitamins and water and then walk for workouts. -

BessyF50 reacted to JessLess in When to take vitamins? This is my schedule. The vitamins were all part of my plan.
With breakfast, I take these with tomato juice to help get them down:
Multivitamin w/iron High potency iron/vitamin C B12 vitamin D Then I take my 650 of calcium at lunch, dinner, and bedtime.
I was taking my iron all at night, but lying down after taking it + not drinking enough water with it made me feel sick.

BessyF50 reacted to Briswife15 in When to take vitamins? You shouldn't take calcium within 2 hours of taking iron, or iron containing multivitamins. It affects the absorption. I take a multi in the early morning. Then calcium at about 8 am, 11 m, 3pm, and another multivitamin at 7 pm. Hope this helps.

BessyF50 got a reaction from Batty2000 in June 2019 sleeversPurplegirl, I've read your comment a couple of times but haven't searched. I'd love to know the cons. I want to be aware. In my case my decision probably won't change as I have health issues now from being obese for so long, plus harder to workout, less energy. So I would probably have to do this as a health issue, but is it that you could have done keto instead? Or you weren't in critical health? Or I'd love to hear more about the cons from you. From your stats it seems that you weren't too big to start? Did you have obesity health issues as well?

BessyF50 reacted to Purple girl in June 2019 sleeversU need to take them religiously. I went off chewable 6 weeks after cause I had such nausea issues, much to the fight from the dietician. Anyway u can’t take multi and calcium at the same time...absorption. So I have a ritual..breakfast, then multi, lunch, calcium, dinner, multi, bed, calcium. U need food in stomach for multi or it makes it upset. I also take the b1 since I take normal multi and b12. I took iron for while, but not anymore. I get blood work every 6 months to check the liver, pancreas, etc.
thats good you work form home, you’ll be fine then, just keep sipping in between calls. Just be careful not to sip too much and talk, you’ll get air in your belly.
Youll be fine.

BessyF50 got a reaction from Batty2000 in June 2019 sleeversHi
Work just approved my June 17th week off for vsg. I'm hoping I can work the following week, I don't quality for fmla yet. I'm rushing to get everything done but have been thinking about the surgery for 2 years now. I'm finally decided to do this in the winter. I have a pre op to do, plus maybe ekg. Plus read up on what to stock up on etc. Lots to learn, excited/nervous but ready.

BessyF50 reacted to Purple girl in June 2019 sleeversComgrats...
i had mind June 1. Went to work June 25.
I had bad nausea issues port op.
stock up.. well you should have a diet sheet with each stage and what you can eat. I wouldn’t go further then each stage, stages progress based on each person. I went slow, and actually backwards. Like I said Nausea. I had issues probably week 2 onto 3. My stomach couldn’t handle being empty of sorts.
I didn’t eat or drink for like 4 days, had to go to Er for fluids. Got better.
Food isnt gonna be the same as before. I suggest to go as each stage goes. Don’t rush it, an issue I have which is better is seeing too much food overwhelms me and upsets me. So buying food is different now,
just go with what your body is telling you.
Fluids are really important even more than food in the beginning.
my nausea is better. If I want to sleep late, I can’t, at least I get up and eat something bad go back to bed. I just had back surgery and was incredibly nauseas cause I didn’t eat. I got over it and forced myself to eat.
vitamins, etc. very important. If you don’t it could compromise your health.
As for work. You know you can’t lift anything heavy for 6 weeks. Hope your job isn’t lifting.
Good luck going back to work during early stages. I hope the job is flexible cause dinking your fluids isn’t a lunch break job. It’s an ALL day everyday event in the beginning.
If you have any other questions, just ask
remember every persons surgery is different
