Chile? Hot sauce?

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I can tolerate a bit of spice, but the other night I tried a little Sriracha (sweet chili) sauce in some of my food, and my taste buds have apparently changed so much that I can no longer tolerate it. It didn't make me ill or anything like that, just that post surgery, it's way too hot for me. I guess I will need to work up to eating hotter foods again over time. 🤷‍♀️

Hello, Thank you for you feedback .. how far out of surgery did you try it?

I had my surgery on Jan. 15th and tried it last week, so like 3-4 weeks out? I have been able to tolerate the spices in TexMex type stuff with no issue, and regular black pepper is fine, but something about the Sriracha just made me gasp for air, lol!

I love spicy foods. I make great spicy curries often so I don't have to think about what I'm taking for work for lunches. I can handle the heat of a curry or taco, but I tried some jalapeno cheese last night and it was too hot. I'm not quite 5 months in, so maybe it's a matter of time before you get used to spices again.

So today I tried homemade veggie chili, and I want to cry.. I cannot tolerate it at all. It's barely spicy, too. It's upsetting since it's loaded with Protein and Fiber, too. :(

When I went for my one month check up my dr had an absolute fit because I told him I had put hot sauce in my soup! He yelled at me like a disappointed dad! He said it could cause ulcers. So, being the good patient I tried to be, I waited until the 3 month mark before I did that again! Now I enjoy as much spice as I need and don't feel any ill effects.

I loved spicy food prior to surgery, if it made my eyes Water, I loved it. I had a very, very spicy dish of Beans and rice from a gal work who is from Ghana about 7 weeks out. I tolerated it with zero issue. I’m 11 weeks out and I have had no issue with eating or drinking anything. I also feel no restriction and never have felt full so I may be the exception.

I never craved spice before surgery but now I love it. I was eating Frank's Buffalo sauce on plain yogurt in the very early stages, I think puree stage. My surgeon and nut didn't caution me against it and didn't say a word when i told them i ate the yogurt/ hot sauce combo every day. And I didn't get any ulcers. I tolerate and want more spice now than i did before.

Thank you all for your feedback, I appreciate it! I still haven’t tried anything spicy. I am trying my hardest to wait till I’m at least one month post op. I really hope it goes well when I do try it because I love hot sauce!

I'm four months out and back to eating my same level of spice but in drastically smaller amounts. I eat 3oz normally at a meal but if it's super spicy, I'm done after 1.5 to 2 oz. I couldn't handle it very well for the first 2 months though. To give an idea of how much spice I eat, think authentic jerk chicken and scotch bonnet peppers.

That being said, I religiously have to take my PPI. As I look to be weaned off of it, the spice may have to be cut down (or out) too.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
