I started my journey FINALLY!

Recommended Posts

Hi! This is my first post! My name is Raven and I'm 5'8 and 315 pounds. I had my first appointment last Friday and went over my insurance and hospital requirements. I'm required to do 6 months of watched dieting and weigh ins. Plus a whole other list of stuff like a sleep study, get cleared by a psychiatrist and take 3 hours worth of computer personality tests, have an exercise evaluation, see a nutritionist monthly, get my lungs and heart checked, and more. It feels like so much stuff (worth it of course) but the 6 months wait feels like lifetime! But I've been fat my whole life so I guess it's doable. [emoji23] They said my goal weight as far as they are concerned is 198 because that would be me out of the obese marker. I can't believe the process is started!

Well welcome to you. Raven you're about the weight I was at my surgery 4 months ago and I have lost 50 pounds, I am also 5ft8in but a whole lot older. I turned 73 the Day after Christmas, so just about the oldest on Bariatric Pal, makes not much difference, because I have all the joys and much of the trials of everyone else. I am a RnY bypass but I know a lot of the other procedures, especially the VSG and ESG. Is there any questions you would answered, anything I can help with? I had a very good surgery and wish that for everyone else. I live in Central Ohio, about 50 miles NE of the hospital where I had my surgery.

Good luck! I'm sure it will fly back. I started my process the beginning of November and am having surgery on Thursday. Thankfully my insurance didn't require the 6 month wait! In the meantime, you'll find a lot of information and encouragement around here.

The 6 months will pass faster then you realize and it will pass regardless of whether you do anything or not. BTW I too am 5'8 and also 315. Your bariatric clinics will keep you on track with getting everything done so you won't be out floating around on your own.

And I also am 5ft8 and was 319 on my surgery day September 5th 2018. Small world, isn't it? Now in 260s almost 5 months out.

It does seem daunting, but don’t get discouraged. Gotta say tho I’ve never heard of having to do a computer personality test. However, it is a lot but sooooo worth it. GOOD LUCK!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
