Had my op on the 19th February. Will be starting purees on Tuesday. How is everyone finding then puree stage?
About to finish my purée stage in a few days.
It’s been challenging because the first few days anything other than liquids really filled me up and it’s been difficult to get in Protein.
My advice is start slowly and try to limit your intake to Protein only.
The first couple days I tried to add in soft veggies because it seems like it makes more sense to try to get in a balanced diet, but then my protein intake took a nosedive and I had a stall.
It was weird at first, but I started eating meals like 1/4 cup tuna mashed with Greek yogurt or 1 scrambled egg, or ounce ground beef and 1/2 ounce goat cheese, etc....
I have to trust that my bariatric Vitamins will carry me through until I have room for other nutrients besides all protein.
Oh, and my “snack” is 8 ounces fairlife milk, between lunch and dinner. Usually with that I can now hit protein requirements (60gram according to my NUT) and not compromise Water intake (80 ounces or more daily). Just looked over my food logs and I’m actually consuming way less carbs daily than I was on the liquid phase.
Don’t get discouraged if it takes you a few days to a week to figure out what your body can deal with during this phase.

So, I was really excited to start my purees only to find out that I have NO appetite. I had a few bites of the ricotta bake yesterday, and it did taste good, but I wasn't really hungry for it. Today I'm like, "whatever, I'll just go back to my Water and Protein shakes." I just have no appetite. I found an article online about this that I wanted to share--here's an excerpt (sorry so long). I'm 16 days post op and wondering if anyone else has no appetite (nothing sounds good):

A loss of appetite after weight loss surgery can be attributed to more than just losing taste and smell. The communication between the brain and the intestines when food is digested is disrupted after weight loss surgery, researchers believe. “Current research is showing that when you take away a lot of your stomach and reroute your intestines, the food is no longer hitting nerve receptors that signal to the brain to make chemicals and hormones that regulate blood sugars, blood pressure, hunger and fullness,” Rene explains. “These are the metabolic changes patients experience after surgery. The downside is that it’s quite a challenge to find foods and fluids after surgery that you can tolerate and eventually like.”

Yeah. First few days of purée stage was tough because I could barely eat without a really full feeling and I made the mistake of wasting valuable stomach space on soft veggies.
It gets easier because your new digestive system has to relearn how to handle food again

Thanks for your advice! 😊
My pleasure! This is such an important and wonderful process that we’re all going through and it’s not for wussies!!! All of us here have made a life-altering medical decision and we will be better for it. I’m trying my best to journal my own journey through this process, but being here with all of you wonderfully brave people is such a HUGE help.
FYI, I was sleeved 2/6 and it already feels like soooo long ago.

Hi Everyone,

I had my RnY yesterday morning from 8-10am. Was in recovery til about 11:30 before moving to my room. Slept on and off between sips of Water til about 5pm then up for a walk and bathroom break. Released today around 10am. Not feeling much except some bloating... so far so good today. The lack of pain is a bit of a pleasant surprise though... taking tylenol and tramedol and wondering if that's the meds doing their job or if there just isn't much pain. Am I in for a rude awakening in a day or two?

I was on the tramadol early and decided I didn’t need it day 2/3 and boy did I regret it. I went through my tramadol and have just now gotten off Tylenol round about day 11. Let me know how it goes !

I had my op on 5th Feb and I am still mainly staying on the puree stage - I find it's better for my stomach at the moment. I had a lot of scar tissue taken out from my previous sleeve surgery, so I think that's why. I am really enjoying refried Beans, porridge (I put a bit of sugar free jam on top with some sugar free maple syrup), and yesterday I made cauliflower cheese by steaming the heck out of the cauliflower, mashing it to a pulp and then mixing in a bit of white Pasta Sauce. When I come to cook it, I put a bit of parmesan on and blitz it in the microwave. It's delicious! I think I'm going to stick a bit longer on purees... I just wasn't enjoying throwing everything up!

KAT1234--OK, so I'm day 2 on purees and I am disappointed. I was looking forward to this and even had cravings. I'm finding this to be a very slow process as I'm nauseated with the pureed food. I may stick to Protein Shakes and Water as my main diet for another week so I may be with you froufrou! I start work again next week so it may be tough. Tonight I mashed up a deviled egg and ate that with about 2 teaspoons of lowfat cottage cheese. I just feel ick. I also do not have an appetite.

I am really struggling with egg, even when mashed up - it really sticks in my esophagus. Have you tried the Ricotta bake or some refried Beans with some cheese? Even a little mashed avocado is nice on the side.

For those of us 2 weeks post op or more, how is everyone sleeping at night ? I can’t make it longer than 2-3 hours lying down without having to get up and move to a completely elevated position. All the while the sharp pains taking over the left side until I’m in a semi reclined spot (then pain is 100% gone).
I have been sleeping in a semi reclined position since I came home. This seems to be the most comfortable pain free position at this time.I cant wait to enjoy a good night sleep laying on my stomach.

Yeah the first few days on purées are tough. Got sleeved on 2/6, and have been on purées for 11 days now and just got comfortable with it in the last couple of days.
Focus on Water and Protein and the process will eventually sort itself out.
FWIW, I feel so much better from this time last week. Pretty sure you guys are about to turn a corner with this

Has anyone else’s surgeon sent samples taken during surgery to pathology. I was unaware they were going to do this. Just wondering if it is normal

My Dr said before surgery, he might take biopsies (liver for example) if they thought needed but in recovery he informed me everything looked perfect.

Im in London and the surgeon gave me yogurt the day after the operation and I’ve been having it every day since. Would you guys say that is the puree stage?

I'm in Canada and that would of been part of my full liquid stage that I started when I went home from the hospital. In the hospital I got Protein Shakes, sugar free juice and Water.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
