yes. I was a slow loser (lost 16 lbs the first month) and lost 100% of my excess weight - over 200 lbs. Your commitment to your program will make *far* more difference to your success than your rate of weight loss.
I want to frame this statement, lol. Great motivator for me. Congrats on your success!

Can i just mention in the interest of keeping perspective. Average weight loss post surgery is 2-4lbs/week with the most coming off (usually) within the first 2 months.
Losing 16lbs in 5 weeks is actually smack in the middle of expected rol (rate of loss). 16/5=3.2lbs/week. [emoji4] That's actually quite a lovely rate of loss. Rejoice and be glad people of earth!

Your positivity (and perspective reminders) help! 🥰

hehe not to go all gansta on you, but I'd probably be tempted to consider cutting a b***h to get back my original 3lb/week weight loss I had in the Wonder Weeks just after surgery. :D bahahahaaha!

The best thing about all this is all this forum I think... I am 32 and hopefully all will sort out and it will be as you say... fingers crossed as at the moment its just weakness and constatn fear of another bleeding and potassium levels falling down constantly, I am trying to drink and eat but it is just making so kuch problems and discomfort... every time I drink something I am sweating like never in my live anything I eat I am pulsating and vibrating with whole body... I am definitely not reaching any of my goals 🤔

ipixie, you're being a bad influence, now my K level( potassium) has also gone low, waiting on an IV bag to come up from Lab so it can be " piggy-backed" in. Had a miserable time since last posting. Been telling everyone up to the window blind repairman I needed to 💩. Hadn't since November 24th. Finally I had ENOUGH, They were giving me. stool softeners, Miralax, all well and good, but I needed a propellant. Finally today I was getting testy, I asked yesterday about an enema only to be t9ld"ooh,we don't do that here!" WTF, you don't do that in a surgical ward in a teaching hospital? Now come on, not in a hospital?
By this morning I am growing testy! Fine, transfer me to a medical ward, send me down to ER , let me have a soapsuds. or a high colonic! 8 am growing Miserable. Surgical resident presses on upper belly , says That's Soft, of course that's because everything is in my lower. colon piling up. Finally I got a fleet this AM with instuctions to hold as long as possible. I did not hit the 30 minute target, only 10+, then ensued a nearly hour of misery. FINALLY,i made it back to bed , I swear 5 pounds lighter, okay maybe 2-3, but my humor is a little BETTER. Not sure I am completely cleaned-out but a lot better now. Saw two residents this AM , my surgeon was supposed to be in today, maybe in street or casual clothes, but still a sight for sore eyes👀, I really do like the man. And then tomorrow Dr Noria will be back, maybe my Dr Steven who is nearly ready,l to go out into private practice. I see at least 1 of my doctors every day, and my mini- bag of potassium has arrived, shouldn't be long until the pump starts beeping again.😝👼😝I keep telling myself I am getting better every day and I guess I am.

@missmoe I'm just over 4 weeks post op and I was really regretting my decision at week 2 as well. Tbh I still have days I regret having the surgery done. It's a mental battle every day and there are days I lose the battle. This is a really hard time to be going through the beginning of the post op phase...the holidays, the parties, the family gatherings. But we can do this. This forum has been a huge support system for me as I struggle through this....post surgery complications? Stalls? Mental hunger issues? There are others out here who have been through it. You're not alone. One thing about bariatric surgery is what's done is done so, even on days we regret taking on this task and these life changes, all we can do is push forward and look for brighter days. It will get easier.

13 days post op here...I regret it
Like to say it's getting easy... I am so confused about the diet etc... one page says stay away from potatoes and the very next page says I can eat potatoes. It's an emotional thing also as we end our relationship with food to only eat as a necessity. It's a bad break up. But we did it and now we have to just do it... keep in touch

I know what you mean about the diet being confusing. I'm allowed mashed potatoes, as long as they aren't standard (white/russett/Idaho) and only one teaspoon per meal. (5 weeks post op). The nutritionist claims I don't need to miss out on family gathering and functions but literally no one and no place we have gone fixes food to fit the diet specifications I'm on. And it never seems like there are enough hours to fit in all the Water and Protein Shakes I'm supposed to be getting each day. (I did ok until I went back to work and had other things to do besides sip water and watch tv/walk all the time). I know I will get through this and it will get easier but... ugh....the first few months seem to be quite a struggle for me.

some programs say things like mashed potatoes are OK, some don't. Programs that are really low carb usually don't include them. A lot of people would tell you to stay away from them during the losing phase. Are these two pages you're referring to both from your surgeon's program? If so, that IS confusing! I'd ask your dietitian.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
