December 2018 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Hello everyone!

I was approved a few days ago (after only waiting a week) and received my surgery date for December 12, 2018! I chose this date out of the few offered to me because I am currently in college and I will be able to finish up my classes prior to the surgery (which was a huge worry of mine.) It's about two weeks before my birthday too!

Anyone else scheduled out in December?

  • I had my surgery exactly a year before you 12/12/17. Hopefully it's a lucky date. Almost a year out looking back it was an amazing life changing decision. I was just over 300 lbs to start and by June

  • So man. What a day! Surgery went text book according to surgeon. I was on the table for 55min. He told me it was obvious that I had rocked the preop diet, as he could have likely done the surgery with

Docs office called me back and said there is no pre-op diet to follow per-se. She said they only require for higher BMI’s. [emoji848] I guess that is good for me? I may just do the liquid thing for the weekend before. It seems odd that there isn’t some ‘flush’ needed before they remove 85% of your stomach?
I dont have one either.surgery date is 11/27
Hi! My surgery date is December 14th. Waiting for final insurance authorization, and my pre-op education class Nov. 20th. So close!

Awesome! I am excited for the new way of life and scared. But the excited out weighs the scared

Congratulations!!! You are the same date as me. I feel like its all getting real now. Very excited though :)

Omg. I was disappointed at first when I finally got approval. Then the hospital I was going to was out of contract with my INs company. So I was in limbo. Then a miracle happened followed by another. I called and got one last spot. So I a scheduled for December 18. I’m nervous excited. More excited than nervous but it changes every hour. Can’t wait to get it done.

Yessss! Got in just in time!

Hey guys,

My insurance carrier approved me for surgery a couple of weeks ago and I am scheduled for my VSG on December 17, 2018. :)

I have been holding off on posting and trying not to get too excited because I have been dealing with some issues because my first endoscopy on October 4 showed that I had a few duodenal ulcers, which probably are a result of me taking prescription strength NSAIDs after I had a grade 3 sprain of my ankle last Spring. So, I have taking protonix (2x daily) and carafate (4x daily) since then. I went in for a follow up endoscopy on November 9 to see if the ulcers have resolved, but they couldn't see anything because they I had too much food in my system (despite a 15 hour fast). Apparently, I probably have gastroparesis (delayed gastric [stomach] emptying), either because I have T2DM or because I am taking Victoza and now two ulcer meds (all of which cause gastroparesis). So, now I have a third endoscopy scheduled for next Tuesday and I have to be on a 48 hour clear liquid diet for this one. Fortunately, VSG is one of the treatments used for gastroparesis--if it's not actually caused by the medicines I am taking. I just hope that the ulcers are gone and there's nothing happening in my upper GI that will prevent me from having the surgery on the surgery on 12/17. My bariatric surgeon (Dr. Spencer Holover from the New York Bariatric Group) is going to be performing he endoscopy, so at least I know someone I trust is evaluating the situation. I am just going to keep my fingers crossed and I'll be able to start the journey with you guys.

Hi Folks,

I am scheduled for 12/5/2018 surgery date. My surgery and program are through Kaiser in Northern California, at the Richmond Medical Center.

In the midst of all of this, I am applying to PhD programs and searching for jobs. I'm thrilled for the next part of this journey.
