Hello everyone! Well very excited to tell you the surgery went very well. Tomorrow I will be two weeks post op and have been mostly on a liquid diet, but the small things I have eaten such as pudding and oatmeal have stayed down with no problem. I am having no abdominal pain other then the minor irritation from the incisions no worries there.

I am actually already feeling the results of having the large intestine back in tact and feeling the nourishment from the food I am ingesting. I am so happy at this point in time. I have now lost exactly 200lbs so I am over 40lbs past where I should have stopped. I obviously do not want to gain all my weight back but do look forward to at least being able to keep things down, in and get the benefit of my food intake whether or not I gain some back or not. I lost from a size 32/34 to currently a size 10. At over 5'9 and large framed that was a lot for the body to take in a year and a half.

I will let everyone know how it continues to go, but I do want to say thank you so much for all the kind words of support, and for those that have no other solution for severe bypass issues I am up till this point, proof that there maybe a solution albeit it may have to be a reversal.

I am so happy to hear this - CONGRATS!

That's great that you're feeling so well. After having my band removed I remember how great it was to eat without pain or restriction.

Frustr8 thank you very much. I hope all goes well as it has for so many. We started out at about the same weight. I was 362 and then my last weight after the reversal was 162. I am confident you will do fine. If for some reason you need to talk, just let me know. I think I went through the full range with the surgery of the good, the bad and the ugly.

I most certainly will. I am finding it difficult to eat again like normal. I catch myself stopping before I finish my meal, simply because I still view my stomach as small. This whole process has been crazy mentally, and when I eat I sit and wait for the nausea to start or the pain and it takes a minute for me to realize I can actually hold the food in, and it is not going to come up. My husband tells me you are okay, go ahead and eat, I love he is so supportive and can tell that I hesitate.

The upside is that eating the smaller amounts, as long as I am getting enough nutrition, is okay and I want to make sure that I build on that healthy habit. We went to a fast food place yesterday and I was able to eat 2/3 of the sandwich, a few curly fries, and then just stopped all of a sudden. My husband asked me what was wrong, I said nothing I am simply satisfied and don't feel the need to finish, just because it is there. His response good I am still hungry and will eat it lol. He has had to go on a diet, as he was always finishing my food, and it caught up with him.

Hopefully I will continue to maintain although I am actually hoping to gain some back. I lost 40 more lbs than I was supposed to.

HELP...I didn't know you could do reversal....that's what I want!! I revised from VBG to Bypass 2012. 67 yrs old. Now losing too much weight, feel horrible. bad labs, live by myself. No appetite, no one to keep me on track, horrible memory from deficiencies. I'm not concerned about regain. I've learned how to control my eating habits. Was not morbidly obese until severe trauma and grief, resolved those. I know how to maintain my weight now. But, I'm not willing to commit to maintaining all that is does as older bypass patient. Do you know how I would find out if you can revise from Vbg/Bypass/Reversal. Is this possible? When VBG was revised, said only option was to revise to Bypass. Any advice you could give would be most helpful.

My advice, go to a Center of Excellence Hospital that is also affiliated with a Medical University. I had my RNY at Ohio State University- Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio, my surgeon was also the Chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss. And I was 72 years and 8 months old, they took me when many others refused. Took me over 3 years from when I first started to seek it. YOu may have difficulties convincing the average Bariatric Surgeon to consider you , that's why I say Go High and Prove this isn't a casual thought on your part, RonnysGal found it worth it, but I'll warn you, if you do find someone, it will not be as easy a recovery as Surgery#1 and Surgery#2, we don't heal as well when we are in our late 60s and early 70s as these 20 and 30 year olds, oh we heal but it can be slow. Hey I wish you success in your search and if you do receive it, please update me, I am nearly your peer and am concerned for YOU!😛👍💥

Please update if you are still following. I would desperately love a reversal, would even pay for it out of pocket!! I'm 67, wasting and continuing to lose. I want reversal before this gets out of hand. But,, I;m unique. I had VBG because of acid reflux revised to Bypass...told my only option. So, now would it be possible for revision?? Not sure. I may be sunk.

Have you been to see your surgeon to ask if it's possible?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
