Electrolytes enough from post-op diets?

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if I need to suppliment my diet with extra electrolytes.

I have noticed increased tiredness as.my couch to 5k training has kicked up into longer jogging intervals. Mowing the yard today, I had an unquenchable thirst (also in a heat wave, but still drank over 48 ounces over a couple hours).

I coincidentally found an old stash of electrolyte tabs, did some brief research and it seems that electrolytes will help with Water retention (weight stalls?) and when thirst is not easily hydrated.

I am extremely active now. At gym 6-7 days a week, 4 hours fencing classes a week, and couch to 5k training every other day. So, could I be putting a strain on my electrolyte needs with my 800 cal/day diet?

Adding back some electrolytes is a good idea, ESP when you are doing extensive flushing. When I go to the gym, I use electrolyte added to my Water to help prevent it from dropping too low. But, that might not be why you are stalled out, that much exercise with that little of an intake is more than likely putting you right into conservation mode, add another 200-400 calories of Protein a day on your heavy work out days and see if that helps out. Using a slow burn protein at night (Casein) might help out as well.

It couldn't hurt to replace some of your Water with a SF Gatorade/Powerade type drink.

Thanks for ideas. The reason I don't do Gatorade is cause of the sugars added to it. I have a lot of tabs I can use for now that dissolve in Water.< br>

G zero is sugar free. I use Propel or a generic branded SF electrolyte additives/ powders.

The PCP who oversaw me during my hospital stay, suggested that I drink Pedialyte. I noticed it really helped when I couldn't get my fluids in.

By intake do you think I am drinking not enough, or not eating enough? I normally do get over 100oz of water a day, but still at 800-850 calories plus whatever snack I might not log

I use sqwinchers zero. It's like Gatorade or Powerade in prepackaged powder. I can use one for 48oz.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
