Terrified of puréed phase

Recommended Posts

I’m having a hard time with the liquid phase. I’m only averaging 40 oz of fluids a day. My stomach gets mad with every sip. I’m supposed to start puréed food on Wednesday and it’s driving me nuts to think about. Is it going to be as bad as I think? I have absolutely no appetite.

Just from my experience, I was on Protein Shakes and broth for three weeks after surgery. When it was time to transition to soft foods...I was allowed yogurt and eggs, and work up from there...I was able to handle it okay.

And no, appetite is not something I'd say I'd have except once every couple of days. I more just recognize that my stomach is empty and it's time to eat something.

Getting all 64oz of Fluid in with all 90g of Protein is still something I struggle with, probably holding my numbers back somewhat.

There have been many suggestion on other posts to try different temperatures of the liquid. Some can tolerate only cold and some can only tolerate warm. The only issue I had when transitioning to puree was how fast it made me full. I ate very little of any pureed meal because of this but substituted with shakes. There are days for me as well where I don't meet my Water and Protein goals. I find it becomes a very long day just because I want to stay up to try and get those last few sips of water in. Most days I am under but still feel fine and still losing. Just do the best you can and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

I am about 6 weeks post sleeve surgery. It was really hard to tolerate anything other than Jello and broth at first. I never hit the Protein and Water daily goals. I struggled to keep a lot of foods I tried down (TMI - I vomited a lot). I spoke with my doctor about it and he said to focus on water goals and reduced the water goal to 40 ounces per day. When I had an aversion to water he said I could hit my liquid goals with Gatorade, crystal light and the like.

So long story short ... I stayed on liquids a little longer despite being able to go to soft foods. Despite these food plans that say you can eat X on a certain date, you know your body and what you are ready to eat. I think it’s good to take it slow. If something doesn’t work then try it again later on down the road.

Like I said in the beginning of this post, I am six weeks out. Today I can eat and drink almost anything now without any issue. As your stomach heals it gets better.

If you think it'll be terrible, it will be. You'll find ways to make it so. It's human nature. I know I've done the same thing.

However, what if you flipped the script? What if, instead of convincing yourself it'll be terrible, you convince yourself it'll be just fine? Then you'll find ways to make it just fine.

This flipping the script skill isn't easy to master. But it's like a muscle; the more you flex it, the stronger it gets. And believe me, it'll be a valuable skill to have during your weight loss journey.

Good luck. You are not alone.

I struggle with the Water portion of my goals and anything that's cold or room temperature. It takes me 3-4 hours to drink 11oz Protein Shake because it feels like a brick in my belly. Water is worse. The only thing that has worked for me is hot broth. It's been my best friend and has gotten me through this past week. Just keep trying things, everyday it gets better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
