It is still a struggle for me too. Today I have been absolutely at war with my mental hunger. I've been wanting sweet stuff all day. I'm pretty sure there is some hormonal impact for me.. but only a few weeks out from surgery, it is REALLY hard.

Yeah that monkey is always there chattering in your ear....we all love ice cream, chips, n pizza. And at some point you can have some. But have it not as an emotional response which is likely what you are experiencing, plan it as a guilt-free part of your day and insist on only the best version - genuine full flavor hard ice cream made with real sugar - not high fructose corn syrup. Only the BEST pizza ever made...etc. It has to wait though until you learn all the rules, until the rules become your life, until you figure out what works for your body and this takes time, you have time to do this - after you get that all worked out. Sometimes this takes therapy, journaling, learning to control anxiety that makes you want food to fix it....and sometimes that fails and we eat anyway but still learn. We get better at it. Be kind.

My plan is to follow my weekly meal plan to the letter and to continue to use meditation to get control of the mental hunger. I also journal if I need to. I've been through this before with my eating disorder recovery, so while it is hard, I have techniques to work through it. I just wanted BrookeR to know she isn't alone.

I'm all about finding the healthy alternative that satiates that craving.

Ice Cream - I eat Halo Top "Ice Cream". Low calories, low to no sugar, has protein. Not saying it's "health food" but it's certainly a way better option than typical Ice Cream and it fits into a post WLS diet rather easily.

Pizza - We'll get Cauli-Power Pizza, if you are watching carbs, you might want to avoid it (but just remember, every single vegetable you eat, has carbs as well, not all carbs are the same, just like not all sugars are the same)

Chips - Kay's Naturals Protein Snacks for the win here. So many options! All made with Soy Protein and are so easy to fit into a post WLS diet.

So, you can TOTALLY get the cravings filled, you just need to find the alternative that works for your WLS diet.
