weight loss halt while still overweight

I follow many people stories on social media and several have brought up a stop in progress. One in particular, was a sleeve patient. For several months they could not lose any more weight. Then was told by the doctor that this must be all the weight they would lose. While being over 100 pounds still overweight. I had my mind set on the sleeve but I would hate for this to happen. Has anyone ran into this before? Would you recommend one surgery over the other?

I guess it depends on what your goal is or how much you want to lose? I chose bypass for max loss quicker ( although sleeve can slower people have lost equal weight in long run), also BC I had reflux . I also saw many converting from sleeve to bypass and I didn’t want two surgeries to be a possibility at all.

So I guess it depends on your preference and medical factors.

Plenty of people with both surgeries here with a lot of success.

The take away from your question is this - after either surgery this still requires the work of YOUR mind and YOUR body, there is no magic. The surgery is a big aspect of the process, you will be eating less food and more nutritious food for life plus being more active. The surgery is physical restriction with some hormone disruption and in the case of bypass malabsorption. No one can compare your individual progress against another person's journey because there are just too many factors, that is why on here we always say 'you have to work the program that works for you' AND 'be willing to adapt it during the process'. It is a good surgery and nearly everyone has success at it more than just traditional weight loss with regards to KEEPING the weight off long term.

As far as the number of people converting to bypass after having the sleeve, I don't have actual statistics but usually the successful sleevers have mastered their program and moved on from the boards, and those with more problems stick around looking for help, so it appears the percentage is huge for conversions.

UPDATE: One study said 8 out of 73 converted after an average of 33 months from being sleeved.
