Problems with gas

Recommended Posts

I'm having a RYGB on 19th sept. Have a sleeve now. The reading I've done re post op complications and effects is freaking me out. All the comments re bad smelling farts etc. I work in the health profession and am around people constantly all day. I want to be able to keep working without passing bad gas and offending patients. How bad is it going to be?

I had A RNY in May. I don’t have problems with gas at all. I’m constipated most of the time & I’ve read that that’s normal too.

Everyone is different after surgery so who knows what your body will do.

There are special underware with carbon filters that are supposed to help with odor.

My gas is bad in the evenings because I hold it all day. There is a buildup and I notice relief when I am able to freely expel it. My point is that its not uncontrollable.

Initially, you could get some bad gas/poop. And it's possible that it'll be a forever problem. You could try just not farting around your customer base. I work at a hospital as well, and I've had no issues with my gas or poop smell... I'm just not running around the hospital crop dusting folks and I use Poo-Purri in the bathroom. It's a totally easy thing to deal with at work, just stop farting around folks in the workplace... go outside or to the bathroom or somewhere where you can let them fly without having co-workers and patients around.

Thanks so much everyone. In my reading I was getting the impression that you were unable to control when you passed gas....if I can choose the when and where...that makes a lot of difference lol

For me, as of right now, my gas is relatively quiet and doesn't smell like anything. I'm not eating regular foods yet though, so that might change. I will say, when I had the band it was the same though, most of my gas didn't have a smell.

Well. @ MissPoodle that's good news for both of us. My future SD is September 5th. And I am also a RYGB. I'm doing a longer than average prediet, started Wednesday August 1st.😛🍶👍

Mine is sept 19th (Australia). Just saw the surgeon again today. Went well. Had all my questions answered. He agreed re the flatulence is manageable with the surgery I'm having. So am filling in all the hospital paperwork now.

I'm back on regular foods. No malodorous flatus to speak of. Some foods do make me more flatulent, wholemeal bread is a good example, but definitely no uncontrollable room clearing swamp gas like I was afraid of.

Poops are taking time to settle down, but we'll get there.

I know I can't predict what will happen but it's encouraging to know that it's possible not to have problems. Thanks

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
