Sleeping after surgery

Recommended Posts

I am a side/stomach sleeper. How long did it take everyone to return to this norm?

Recliner for first days? Bed?

TIA!!

I am exactly 1 week post-op today. Last night was the first night I was able to sleep in my bed. I slept on my side, propped with pillows so as not to roll onto my stomach at all. I have been sleeping in our recliner since I got home from the hospital on Saturday.

I was in a recliner for a couple weeks. Had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time though. That tends to refer pain into the left shoulder which is the side I loved, could ONLY, sleep on. Now I can sleep all which ways lol, but yes, recliner for 2 weeks ish. Hug, hope you begin to feel good soon.

I slept in the recliner two nights, then my bed with extra pillows. It was awhile before I could comfortably side sleep though.

I slept in my bed. I don't have a recliner, so that wasn't an option. First 3-4 night I slept on my back, and then I was able to sleep on my side with one pillow wedged under my side and hugging another pillow.

I tried sleeping in my bed the first night, but that didn't happen; it hurt. I ended up sleeping upright on the couch with my feet propped up on my ottoman for 2-3 nights. After that, I was able to sleep in my bed again. I also am a side/stomach sleeper, and I was able to return to that position quickly. Just try it, and if it hurts, adjust. Your body will tell you if it's okay to sleep that way or not.

In hospital bed, i actually slept on both sides oddly enough with a pillow and when i got home I've been nothing but sleeping on sides, its the only way I can sleep.

At the hospital, I slept on my back for two days. After that, I went back to sleeping on my side or back. It only hurt when I had to crunch my stomach to get up.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
