Gastric Sleeve and Long term success

Hi, I’m considering having gastric sleeve surgery and am worried about the long term success rates. Can anyone please provide me with advice on this? Thanks!

Researchers with the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Carolina recently tracked the progress of 1,787 veterans who underwent gastric bypass surgery. They found that one year after surgery patients lost 98 pounds on average. Ten years later they gained back only about 7 pounds.

Thanks so much for this information, it is really helpful. It is also really reassuring that there is so much research on long term success with having weight loss surgery.

i am a 6+ year GOAL veteran of the sleeve. i am very happy, many health improvements.

I think i am one of the long term success people, and i totally have/will

continue to love my sleeve. restriction i had in the early days is no longer

around for me. its a mental game/attitude for ME, that gives me success.

moderation, Protein, Water etc still have to be followed. Over the years, i am

not perfect - well then again..... i've become more lax with eating - little

fluctuation, but i consider myself at GOAL - you work with the sleeve, and it will work/for you. thumbs up towards you and long success of the sleeve.

I'm 23 months out VSG. (I'll be two years at end of August.) I still have quite a bit of restriction, but I can eat whatever I want, so I have to be careful and follow the rules. However, I've lost 115 pounds from my highest recorded weight and looking at some old picture recently determined I had to have been over 300 pounds in 2015 - so I've lost about 140 pounds. My body fat is at 31%, I'm shooting for28%, so my work's not done. I haven't had my plastics yet because I'm not emotionally ready for that yet. I'm a work in progress and always will but.

But I started barely fitting in a size 24 and wear a size 6 today and am nationally ranked as a foil fencer (taken up post surgery) in my age group. Work the plan and the plan works for you.

Congratulations on your amazing success!!! That’s so fantastic and you must feel amazing 😁 this is also so encouraging for me to hear and gives me much hope, as I am currently at about 330 lbs and am only 5’4” so have a lot of weight to lose! I have repeatedly tried and lost lots of weight but continually regain plus some, so am seeing no hope of improvement without surgery. I am currently on Saxenda (daily injections) to help with appetite suppressing but it has done nothing but make me nauseated. So, surgery is really what needs to happen, just pretty anxious as it’s a big surgery and significant decision. I have been struggling with my weight since the age of 10 and I just turned 35, so I am really ready and need a significant change. My weight has been ruling my life and decisions for far too long. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and success with your surgery. This very comforting!!
