Exercise Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

My VSG is tentatively set for the end of August. Did anyone begin exercising before surgery? Did it make recovery easier? I want to do what I can to diminish my recovery time and pain.

Starting the habit sooner than later is going to make everything easier in the long run. Having a stronger heart and more efficiently running "system" will help, how much, that's going to be on a case by case basis, but it certainly wouldn't make things worse!

I started a walking habit with a pedometer (Fitbit) six months before my surgery. It was the smartest thing I ever did. Walking has been a huge part of my weight loss and improved fitness.

Working out before surgery is just as vital as before. And increasing core strength will help to diminish back/abdominal pain after surgery because you will be compensating so much with your back. I regret not not doing it in my workout routine prior to surgery

Working out before surgery is a great idea however I would use caution depending on how obese and out of shape you are.

If you're on the high end of obesity or in terrible shape I would probably just do anything to be active and be content with that.

If you're in decent shape and on the lower bmi I think you can push it a little harder, considering you have a solid 2 plus weeks of rest coming your way.

I definitely pushed it quite a bit, and even spent like 3 hours in the gym the day before my surgery.

I worked out with some form of cardio 6 days a week for 3 weeks before surgery- and I think it really helped- my body was ready to move so even the night after surgery I was up and walking around the hospital for long periods. I’m 5 days out and walking is still super helpful with digestion.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
