Hello, I’m 3 Weeks Post Op today and I was wondering if anyone knows if watermelon is ok to eat? I would really like a small piece I am on puréed stage.

You could ask your nutritionist.

I, personally, ate watermelon at 3 weeks with no issues.

But different people have different plans and recommendations (and tolerances)...so it might be best to ask.

Just be careful of sugar content. A cup of watermelon is 9 g of sugar for reference

Eat all the watermelon you want... it's fruit.... enjoy.....think I might go have some as well.....that sugar from watermelon isn't going to make or break anything....it's natural sugar...

It's not allowed on our plan till pretty far out, once we have reached goal. Then we can have 1 fruit per day, after Protein and veggies. I can't eat it, as it causes dumping.

All I’m saying is be careful. fruit has a lot of sugar and on my plan (and most) should be eaten in small amounts. My plan says 1/2 piece of fruit a day max.

Natural sugar has its issues too with surgery sugar limits

Just my opinion

I was eating watermelon at about 7-8 weeks out. I know some say watch the sugar content, but watermelon and cantelope are actually very good nutritional fruits with antioxidants. I did find that because it really breaks down after thoroughly chewing it that you do eat a little more of it then you think

I ate watermelon about 2-3 months post op. I would have had it sooner, but it wasn't in season when I had my surgery. I love cantaloupe as well, and ate that as soon as I was cleared for fruits. It's a good one because it doesn't have seeds. Just watch the amount you are eating, for me, I could practically binge on some cantaloupe. It's almost a slider food for me. I always measure out my portion and put the rest away.

My wife is 4 weeks out and she loves watermelon. It hasn't hurt her yet.

It's mostly Water so I think it would help towards the Fluid goal too.

Hello, yes I am 4 weeks out and seen my dietician she recommended for me to start eating fruits. She told me watermelon is a great fruit to start on because it’s really easy to eat and it’s pretty much purée in your mouth. I was so happy to hear because i too love watermelon. I had about 5oz yesterday (about 4-5) pieces and It went down regularly like before the surgery. Enjoy!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
