Substitute Drink for Sparkling Water after Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have a question...I know after having the sleeve surgery I won’t be able to drink any sparkling bubbly Water. I love to cook, try new recipes and grill especially on Sundays and I enjoy having my wine or cocktail ( it’s just so relaxing, fun and chill) lol...so anyway I have been preparing myself for change, surgery and working on losing weight with my nutritionist so I just decided on my own to cut out the alcohol and switched to sparkling water with fruit in it for now and I put it in a wine glass so I feel like I’m still enjoying my cocktail, are there other drink options out there besides the Protein Shakes, Gatorade etc that I can still sip on in my wine glass?? I know after surgery I won’t be grilling out for a while but I love drinks in pretty glasses even if it’s not alcohol...it’s just my thing that I enjoy 😉 any suggestions...

After surgery, you will have to permanently cut out ALL bubbly beverages, regardless of their calorie count.

Yup, My doctor made me cut them out as soon as I started the program. I haven't had a soda, beer or sparkling anything (nothing with carbonation) in about 15 months now.

I do drink alcohol though, I have 1 drink a night either Schnapps, wine, rum or whiskey. The doctor hasn't objected because I have done so well. Yes it is empty calories but I make sure I get plenty of exercise to burn them off. I am walking 3 miles every day and on Sunday's and Wednesday's I am running 3 1/2 miles plus do my walking.

That's not necessarily true, because it varies depending on the program. My surgeon allows diet soda and sparkling Water as long as they're super low-calorie and my stomach tolerates them (which it does).

My surgeon led me to believe that the carbonation could possibly stretch my stomach back out causing me to eat more and lose less weight.

It isn’t a matter of the carbonated beverage having calories or not. The issue is that the carbonation will stretch the stomach regardless of the calories in the drink. Why risk stretching your stomach when you’ve gone through all this to reduce the size of your stomach???

I didn't say the person SHOULD drink carbonated beverages. I just said they're not necessarily permanently forbidden in all cases, because not all surgeons/nutritionists completely forbid them. Obviously, the best thing for anyone to do is what their OWN doctor says, and that varies WIDELY for many things, from food to drinks to exercise.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
