Dizzy and not feeling well

Recommended Posts

Hi I had my sleeve done on thursday and came home yesterday. Is it normal to still not feel well and I am becoming very dizzy and lightheaded. I am not able to take down much but have ptobably taken down about 16-20 ounces of Water and Soups total today. Are these feelings normal or should I be worried?😔

Totally normal. You just had major surgery, your body has a lot of healing to do. You do need to try to get down more fluids that that though, or you will be in trouble with dehydration. Just take it easy and focus on drinking fluids.

At this point fluids are more important than Protein. I liked Protein20 Water, and I had a million different flavors of Crystal Light. Have you tried warm drinks? Many people find those easier at first. I stocked up on a lot of different herbal teas. You can also try heating up broth.

The signs of dehydration in Adults are:

* Increased thirst

* Dry mouth

* Tired or sleepy

* Decreased urine output

* Urine is low volume and more yellowish than normal

* Headache

* Dry skin

* Dizziness

* Few or no tears

It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even Water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate Hot Drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good.

The Fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein Shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and Decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.

It is. But it will get easier. I'm praying that you get over this rough patch quickly.

If you keep drinking 20 ounces a day, you will end up in the ER with dehydration...like many many other bariatric patients before you. Don't do this. I promise there are better ways you want to spend your day.

To avoid this....pour four little one ounce medicine cups of Fluid every hour. Write it down. Drink one little one ounce cup every fifteen minutes. Every hour you are awake. If you do this for one week, you will have a much easier time drinking.

Any fluid counts. broth. Tea. coffee. flavored water. Protein Drink. Strained Soup. Just get 4 ounces in every single hour.

Best wishes.

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
