Do tired of vomiting

So I’m 19 days post VSG, and I am soooo tired of vomiting! I’m supposed to be in the soft food stage, but pretty much everything that goes in comes right back. So far I’ve been able to keep down 2-3 tablespoons of mashed potatoes, applesauce and one time refried beans. It’s to the point where even when I’m hungry I don’t want to eat because I dread throwing it up AGAIN. I get my fluids in but protein is an issue. And I can’t take my Bariatric chewies because they come right back up too.
Basically I’m living on 64oz of wasted, 200 calories and on a good day 13-14g of protein if I can get a shake to stay down. I’m constantly tired and could probably sleep all day if that was an option.
I’m on protonix in the morning, carafate every 6 hours and nexium and Prilosec at night along with my regular medications.
I’m just so angry and depressed at this point. I wish I had never done this. It’s like I worked so hard and jumped through so many hoops for 18 months just to wish I’d die. Let me clarify that I’m not suicidal, but if something happened tomorrow and I didn’t wake up, I honestly don’t feel like I’d care. I get no pleasure from life. It’s not missing food. It’s that I literally don’t care about anything at this point. Everyone says I worked really hard for this and it will get better and blah blah blah. But I don’t see it.
I’m sorry this is depressing. But I had to let it out somewhere and since everyone just keeps saying you’re fine you’re doing great whatever when I’m NOT, I thought I’d post it here.
This has been a terrible experience since day 6 post op. I’m just hating I had this done.
Am I alone in feeling like this? Everyone else just seems so damn happy.

You can get a nausea medication for under your tongue that dissolved quickly and gets into your system quickly. Ask for that.
I’m going to ask for that tomorrow! Thank you!

I spent 6 days in the hospital after surgery due to nausea and vomiting. Was given the patch and several different anti nausea meds that did nothing for me. Was finally sent home and still having horrible nausea and vomiting 1-3 times a day. Had a follow up yesterday and was told I’m sensitive to being in ketosis and to have a little apple juice through out the day to keep my sugar up. Went all day yesterday without vomiting and thought I had the code cracked only to wake up in the middle of the night vomiting ? I feel so defeated. I’ve followed everything the surgeon has told me and can’t seem to get this under control. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone and am so sorry to see others having issues.
I’m wondering if this might be my problem as well since I was told to drink regular Gatorade for now. Of course he told me it’s not a good choice for long term, but it’s definitely going down and staying down for now. And I only have a small bottle a day. A little here and a little there.

I feel the same way!!!! Yesterday was my first day on soft/puréed foods!! Took one bite of eggs and they came right back up! Tried some sweet potato later one in the day and I had indigestion for 5 hours! Being on vacation, I am totally miserable, I want to cry my eyes out, I am missing the food I use to eat ???!! They eating steak and I’m drinking a Protein shake!! I just want to stay in the room and pout!!!!
Yep! No soft foods would stay down. Especially not eggs! As much as I’d LIKE to be able to eat something more filling, at least the liquids stay down! I’m a little scared to even try anything soft again because I don’t want to start throwing up all the time AGAIN.

This is beyond unacceptable.....you are literally starving and all that vomiting is bad for your electrolyte balance. If your surgeon is part of a group then SOMEONE is responsible for covering for his patients while he is unavailable and needs to figure out what is going on with you. When I was in a group practice, we always took calls and covered for whomever was out. It is just a basic standard of care.

I would recommend you stop the phone calls and just show up at the office and ask that someone help you. Try to be as calm and nice as possible but do not let them just blow you off.

I sure hope you get to feeling better soon.

That’s exactly what I did, and even though the office girls don’t like me now, too bad! Sorry not sorry as the kids say! ?

So glad to read that you are getting better!!

Moondoggie 1983 so happy you finally got some answers and I hope his whole staff got their butts chewed up one side and down the other! We all know when something is wrong with our own body!! Great news!!!

Hey guys. Sorry for the long gap. I ended up just going to the surgeons office and hour before they all go to lunch. I made a point of not leaving (and thus letting them get their food!) until I was seen. And seen I was! The surgeon was pissed because no one had sent along my messages of how poorly I was doing. The office staff was pissed because I called them out on their crap treatment of a patient.
So the end result was that he put me back on liquids only until tonight or tomorrow, at which point I can start trying applesauce again. I’m also to drink regular Gatorade right now to make sure I’m getting calories. I’m getting in a small Optifast shake a day to get some Protein, but if I overdo the powders I’ll throw up. So I’m basically getting about 20-30g of protein and then my Gatorade, some Water and some teas.
I didn’t get any nausea meds because the patch gives me hives. The protonix seems to finally be working and I’ve ditched the carafate because it was causing me to foam and slime.
Long story short, I’ve switched everything around, gone back to liquids, am drinking some full sugar drinks to get calories (and they also give me little hunger spikes which is good!) and now have my surgeons personal email. And his office staff hates me but they can suck it. ?
Have only thrown up 3-4 times in the last few days, and those were from drinking Soup too fast (you get really hungry after starving for weeks and it’s a little hard to control when you can finally eat anything again). Or the surprise of a PB.
And I’m taking 3 flintstones Vitamins a day instead of my Bariatric chewies. Until I can get some serious food in, I’m avoiding them. Trying to keep things easy to process.
My surgeon said to think of it like a twisted ankle. If it hurts to move or walk on it, would you keep aggravating it or give it rest and a break? Same idea with new little tummies.
Thanks for all the advice and concern guys! You’re all wonderful people and hopefully good friends soon. You all touched me at a very low point in my life. Thank you for making a bad time so much better.

Awesome news! So happy the surgeon had your back!

Yes! That is so awesome. Hope you continue feeling better!

I’m super glad it wasn’t your surgeon being the bad one in all of this that is a life long relationship you have with something like bariatrics same as in psych office staff can really be incompetent but hey you don’t go to school for over a decade to work in an office

Soo glad you got help and doing better. Nix eggs for awhile, some people have to wait months to be able to tolerate them. You may have to ease ito foods super slow until you heal and your tummy gets used to textures.

Oh yeah! I’ve nixed everything other than slow cooked pulled chicken. No other meats are working for me now. I’m just sticking to very soft vegetables right now. And some milk products. So far so good.
I’m in a stall, but since I lost over 30 lbs in 2 and 1/2 weeks, I’m more than good with it, even if it is a wee bit frustrating.
And is,my favorite Moondoggie keeping her paws clean. her fur smooth and feeling better. Promise you haven't been out treeing raccoons yet or running with the other hounds at the Fox hunt? Stay easy, greeley and don't let your healthy get sleazy!?
