I had my first outing with my sleeve today and I think I managed quite well. It wasn’t easy, as my head wanted to indulge, and I was nervous as no one knows I’ve had the surgery.
We went to a birthday party with lots of delicious food and drinks on offer. I stuck to my Water all afternoon and joined in on all the non food festivities and had a great time.

Well done Pealdrop ! Good for you for planning ahead and still enjoying your time !

Yes muzikmiss - I’m finding that Water on the nightstand and sipping from the getgo helps. I think it’s hard to stay hydrated, especially overnight!

Water & Protein are my goals. I add protein to literally everything during my liquids to help my tummy heal. I keep a water bottle by my bed so I can sip whenever I wake.

I'm scheduled for June 20th. Originally I was scheduled for the 6th, but had to push the date back because of work. I kind of wish I hadn't done that, because it'd be done by now and I'd be on the road to recovery already! I keep having this paranoid nervous thought of getting to the hospital and my insurance falls through, or the surgeon cancels, or, I don't know, something goes wrong on the table. Anybody else get this nervous before the big day?

I was nervous it was going to be canceled right up to entering the operating theatre! Completely irrational, but I couldn’t stop thinking it.

I'm the same day. I originally wanted the sleeve but due to severe reflux my Dr recommended the rny. But anyways, I'm on day 5 of my preop diet and it's finally feeling real. Honestly, I'm crazy nervous and also super excited.

My surgery date is one week away now and I am getting nervous! I'm excited for the change and things to come, but I am nervous about the surgery. I have had other surgeries before and always get sick no matter what they give me when I wake up. My surgeon tells me I absolutely cannot throw up after surgery! I told him he better keep me knocked out then! LOL I am on week 2 of my pre-op and had one cheat over the weekend and ate a little donut my granddaughter gave me (she's 5), but man was it good! Today, I'm back on track and go for my pre-op visit with the surgeon tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Hello guys ! So today 6/12 @ 8 am I am scheduled to have gastric bypass surgery . While I am extremely excited and blessed to have this opportunity. I am kind of stuck .. i have done everything as directed for the 2 week liquid pre op diet including the day before “all clear liquids” diet and all of a sudden i have REALLY BAD acid reflux . Like honestly this appeared out of no where and I haven’t eaten/drank anything that should’ve caused this to happen . I’m honestly scared right now because I’m not sure what to do ... or how to go about it. Maybe that’s a silly thing to say or question . I don’t know . If any of you have any advice i would greatly appreciate it

Made it out of sleeve/hernia surgery yesterday afternoon. Shoulder pain from the air is the worst. I sleep two hours sitting up and then walk. I was up and walking two hours after surgery. I told my surgeon that I changed my mind after the surgery because it hurt pretty bad. I have not even looked at incision sites yet, hurts to breath deep and shoulder pain are the issue. I know the hernia adds to the recovery time, but I am hoping this passes soon. I already have 2440 steps from 1:00am until now from pacing in the hotel room. Trying to let my husband get some sleep. I kept telling him to go do stuff, but he didn’t leave my side. We go back to the surgical center at noon for follow up and then we head back home. Thanks to everyone that posted their experiences, it helped with understanding what was going on. They really need to figure out a way to vacuum seal us when they are done! Also, took oral (melting tab) morphine after waking up because of the National opioid crisis. The crisis being that IV morphine isn’t available due to hurricane.

Welcome to the losers bench.

The gas pain was the 2nd worse part of the process (1st being the 2 weeks on the preop diet).

Hope your gas goes soon, I walked a lot and there was lots of burping and passing gas for a few days. It’s a very musical experience lols

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
