I don’t know about you, but for me it has been a long time coming. Anyone else having surgery June 4th? I really anticipated that I would have been sleeved by now. Oh well, good thing come to those who wait. So how is your preop diet going? Feeling anxious or more excited? I am counting the days, but there is also some anxiety sprinkled in as I get closer to my surgery date.

I’m June 4th, too. On my second day of the long 14 day liquid pre-op diet. Do you have a pre-op diet plan? I’m trying to keep myself busy so I don’t go nuts with cravings. I do have some anxiety about getting sleeved, not the surgery really just what life is going to look like after this huge step!

Hi twinnie! June 4th here, as well. I just saw my surgeon for my pre op visit and I’m pretty nervous, too. I think being nervous/anxious is normal considering we are making life a huge, life altering decision that CAN possibly have complications. What gets me past the anxiety is knowing that the quality of my life should improve drastically and that I will be around for a very long time. Now...to get past this damn detox headache & life will be nifty!

I had to buy a two week supply of Optifast and 1 month of postop Vitamins from my doctor. I would have rather dieted on my own, but this is a requirement that my doctor has. I woke up at 3am last night with my stomach gurgling. I drunk some Water and went back to sleep.

Hey the fellow 4 June sleevers. How’s everyone feeling? Not long now and we will be on the other side.

My surgery is planned for 1pm and my surgeon has told me I’ll be in hospital for at least 3 nights. I’m hoping by the 4th night, when I’m back home, I can side sleep with some support on my tummy

I was only required 2 days of liquids pre-op. I'm doing 3 because I can't properly read a calendar apparently! I have been straight up HANGRY. But so excited for tomorrow!!! 3-4ish hours of surgery and hopefully only 1-2 days in the hospital. Best of luck for all of us! We've got this!

I’m on the other side!! Surgery went well. I’m feeling no nausea so that’s a huge plus. I’m still on pain meds so it’s all hugs & puppies for now.

im allowed to have ice chips so that’s helping with the thirst. So far so good

how are the other 4 June peeps feeling?

It’s the morning after and I’m feeling good, considering.

i wet the bed last night, I was a little too comfortably numb, and now have bladder control back this morning. I have some pain from the gas, it is manageable at this stage. I’ve taken my drs advice and am having all the pain relief offered. I am able to move around on my own and am having ice chipsand using lip balm. That with the drip is stopping me from being dehydrated. I drank a lot of Water leading up to the surgery so my body was well hydrated prior to fasting so I think that helped. I don’t feel hungry, but would love a coffee. Will see the surgeon later today to see when I’m on liquids.

hope all my surgery twins are doing great.

I’m on the other side this evening, too. I’ve been sleeping pretty much all day, I feel exhausted. I, too, am taking what’s offered pain wise. Gas pain has just reared it head for me. I’ll be going for my 2nd walk here shortly to get more of it moving and out. I’ve felt moderately nauseous and puked once. I’ll be happy to get home tomorrow!
How are the rest of our June 4th folks doing?

I'm doing good! Sore from the gas. But manageable. 4.5 hour surgery. Took my first walk about 30 minutes ago. No nausea, just exhaustion. Sipping Water and trying to get some Jello down. I hate jello. How are all my twinsises feeling?

Hey there. I’m doing great, I stopped all pain meds last week.

I’m having no issues with drinking Water and can drink between 2 -3 litres a day. I just sip all day, I go back to work Monday so am hoping to keep it up once I’m back in my routine.

I have a shake for Breakfast every day, and as it is not sweet I think I’ll continue this until I run out of the powder. I also have coffee.

I have been having a lot of Soups for lunch/dinner. I’ve been adding lots of herbs to give them the taste I’ve been missing. I have either yogurt or Protein Jello as my afternoon snack.

I start the purée stage tomorrow yeah!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
