Good Day! It's me again..lol

Next question/issue:

I'm a vegetarian and prefer eating whole natural foods. I'm concerned about all the "non-fat" "sugar-free" "food" that it looks like I'm going to have to eat! So processed, chemical filled, ugh..

HELP! My tentative date is September 24th

Now you know what to discuss when you meet with your nutritionist! It's not impossible, but there are a lot less ready-to-grab-and-go type foods, especially early on. There are vegan Protein powders, but you have to be careful and make sure you get complete Proteins, and, of course, they are definitely processed food, too.

I don’t eat any processed stuff except Premier Protein with my coffee. I do eat 2% cottage cheese, but nothing else is lowfat. The postop diet is really very clean. SFH Pure is an more natural Protein Powder if you are looking for options. I used this pre-surgery, but then my tastes changed.

You can get by without them. I skipped out on them myself. I blended Soups or had broth. I tried a sugar free Jello pudding & I kid you not everything else went in the trash. A few packs of pudding & jello all got tossed out. I wouldn’t even give that to my kids! I also used Garden of Life, Vega, & Orgain for Protein powder. The nutrients you get compared to other milk based protein is essential for recovery in my opinion. I did eventually have some Premier Protein but I prefer plant based over the others. Garden of Life is still my favorite.

I do not eat meat or dairy and have been concerned about this since starting the process.. I"m really going ot have to change what I'm eating after surgery, I've been told not to eat many starches at all, which includes Beans :( I have found non-dairy Protein Shakes and bars but don't want to only eat this for the rest of my life lol

I do not do the non fat, sugar free stuff and never did. I eat vegetarian and vegan meals. I’m also a year out from being sleeved. I’ll tell you in the beginning it is imperative that you do focus on getting Protein in though. I did it with plant Protein Powder. I did suck it up and just used some Premier Protein (cause insurance paid for it) for a little while. When I started soft foods, I had eggs, cheese, and mashed black Beans. There are some threads in the vegan/vegetarian forums that can be helpful for ya, as we’ve all shared what we’ve done, had, eating, etc.

When you say you Blended soup... Is what you're saying is that whatever kind of Soup you had say , cream of mushroom or vegetarian vegetable, you would just put it in a blender and then you could eat it like that?

After grinding up the peas and Beans in a coffee grinder you say you added it to liquids... Is that the liquids before and directly after the procedure? Also, they're dried peas and beans when you add them to the liquid don't they swell up?

I’ve moved to a Paleo/Whole 30 diet which typically limits dairy, grains, legumes, and all processed food sources. I’m finding substitutes with more natural sources where I can, but I’ve also just accepted that the first few months, it’s more important to hit my Protein and hydration goals however possible and gradually work back to the way I plan to eat the rest of my life once my stomach has healed, and I can tolerate a variety of foods again.

I figure this process is going to be hard enough without adding more complications at the beginning when I’m barely able to eat anything.

So, I’ll be doing Protein infused Water and sf Jello with added whey protein and Premier Protein shakes. I have found Paleo and Vegan protein powder which I will use in my jellos and shakes.

Vegetarian broth won’t have the Proteins Bone Broth offers so you’d have to add unflavored protein sources. However, I’ve been told you can’t add the protein when the broth is hot or it will break down the protein and become gloopy.

I was on a full liquid, not clear liquid diet when I did this. That was day 3-21 post-op for me. All the ingredients I mentioned were dry when I ground them up and they became a fine powder. Mixed into broth or Soup, with or without a blender, I didn’t have any trouble with clumping or swelling up of the ingredients. No more than with Protein powder, anyway.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
