8 pounds more right after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just got home from my sleeve surgery that was done yesterday. Before I took a shower I went on the scale. Surprisingly I weight 8 pounds more than yesterday morning. How can that happen??

But I didn’t get much today anymore. That seems crazy. I just wanted to see if I maybe lost a pound but really did not expect a gain of 8 pounds.

Don't worry... its the fluids from the IV. You will begin to lose those pounds in the next few days. Be sure to hydrate!

Some people advise not getting on the scale at all for the first month or so. I'll admit I didn't follow that advice, but this is part of the reason why. My doctor advised me to focus on my Protein, Water, Vitamins, and exercise, and not even pay attention to my weight. I did weigh myself--after all, why did I have the surgery?!--but I kept his words in mind. Be patient--it will come off. Pretty quickly the first month, too, though it will slow down. And you'll stall--you know to expect that, right? It can be discouraging but it's just another phase we go through. And come out the other side and start losing again!

It’ll go away within 5-7 days! Then you’ll see amazing losses on that scale! Try not to obsess haha- but we all do :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
