Will I always feel nauseous?

Recommended Posts

I hope to be having my surgery (gastric sleeve) later this month. I’ve been to several support groups and have read a lot on this website. One thing that scares me is that I’ll always feel nauseous especially in the beginning. I hear people talk about foods they can’t tolerate and finding out the hard way. I plan on going back to work 2 weeks after surgery. I have an office job. I’m worried that I’ll need to spend a lot of time in the bathroom feeling sick. Am I being paranoid? What has been your experience?

I dealt with this and really struggled and then realized I was trying to add too many different foods at once - I had spent so much time planning my liquid, pureed and solid foods but turned out I could only tolerate a few in each stage. I had to scale back and stuck to Protein Shakes alot, applesauce, sugarfree chocolate pudding (I added Protein powder), mashed zucchini. Each time I got to the next food stage, I would pick 2-3 foods at the most. My dr. also had me stay on my acid reflux meds for a month or two after surgery. Good luck !!

My surgery was April 25 and I'm returning to work on May 9. So far, I've had no feelings of nausea and the liquids are staying down. I hope to move to soft/pureed foods on Monday.

With all due respect, you're worrying about a problem that doesn't exist & may never exist.

I'm three & a half years post surgery & I've never felt nauseous. I've also never thrown up. I've had some acid reflux, but that's under control.

Good luck!

I'm about 3 and a half weeks out. I do experience nausea if I eat too fast.... but I find It's not as bad as I had expected. I have a fatty liver, and suffered with pain and nausea from it for a couple years. The nausea I experience now is really nothing compared to that.

I think the best thing is to try new foods at home. I wouldn't take an egg for lunch if you haven't had eggs yet. I had some nausea in the first 2 months. I'm 14 weeks post op and I occasionally get nausea. Nothing that is unbearable. I still carry around the prescription dissolvable just in case, but I haven't had one in over a month. Honestly, my nausea is usually brought on from eating something I shouldn't of, usually too many carbs OR if I had one bite too many. I don't think you have much to worry about. You will adjust quickly.

I get nauseous at least once a week and I’m 5 months post op. So it can linger. It’s a lot better now that I went back on my acid reducer. I feel like I’m the odd ball in these replies though—guess I’m just that lucky 😝

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
