Hey! So, my liquid diet was 30 days long. I was only allowed Protein Shakes and raw veggies. It suuuucked. I ended up cheating about...4 times. Badly. Like taco bell and fries from McDonald's bad. I did end up losing about 20lbs before surgery though and the last 1 1/2 weeks of my liquid diet I was on my best behavior because i was scared they'd open me up and be unable to preform the surgery. At first I didn't want to tell anyone I cheated because I didn't want anyone to stop believing in me or tell me "you must not be ready for surgery" but honestly, it happens. The moment I'd cheat, I'd pick myself back up and keep going.

You got this. If you slip up, it isn't the end of the world. I'm currently 10 days post op and 7lbs down. If you need any encouragement, feel free to reach out to me!

Btw, the liquid diet after surgery is literally no better than the liquid diet you're currently on. Maybe that's just me though. Been sipping on liquids as meals for nearly 5 weeks now. *dead*

Day one is the HARDEST!! I cried myself to sleep on day one of the liquid diet. By day three it wasn't so bad. Hang in there.

What helped me was remembering how far I'd come on the solid pre-op diet, why I was having gastric bypass, and my goals. It sounds like fluff that the nutritionist just says, but for me it worked.

Congratulations [emoji847]

Yea this is so hard for me. I have the worst headache as well, deep in my brain. Honestly I feel so nauseous from these drinks and they’re starting to taste so sweet. I hate how all these fluids feel in my stomach too, gross! I’m just going to keep my eyes on the prize and letting people like yourself and everyone here going through this inspire me because if others can do it I can too [emoji123] i still wish I could at least have real food for dinner even if it was a tiny lean piece of Protein with no sides [emoji30] that would be amazeballs after drinking protein all day.

Omg I keep hearing this that it gets better after the 3rd day and I’m certainly looking forward to whatever switch that’s supposed to go off in me and just surrender to how it’s going to be. And I agree, I wouldn’t want to come this far just to ruin it all. I’m deff pushing through and trying to stay focused.

I like to watch ClusieL on YouTube. She tells it like it is. And she’s funny. Day 1 WAS the worst for me! My head kept telling me I was hungry and I actually was physically hungry about 3 times. I’m on day 5 now and so far I’ve lost a little over 6 pounds. I know that doesn’t sound super amazing, but it feels amazing [emoji23]. By day 3 I had a bunch of energy, but I did start having a hard time lifting heavy things. I save my sugar free Jello for dinner and it really feels like a decadent dessert! I’ve also been making sure I get around 92 oz of Water a day. Honestly, I think it’s all the water that’s keeping me full.
Just take your time. I had my Optifast Soup and my jello last night and took 2 hours to eat that. I felt sooo full!
You can do it!

I was supper pumped yesterday and couldn’t wait for today to begin my diet but when I woke up this morning I almost convinced myself that I should start tomorrow and instead have salmon with Alfredo and ribs for dinner. Like I really had to talk myself out of it and get rid of everything else in the fridge. I haven’t experienced hunger pangs but I can’t stop thinking about all the delicious food I want to eat [emoji30]
Can you guys suggest any weightloss shows or documentaries that will keep me a little distracted?? Thanks in advance

I am so glad you posted this and I get to also see people's responses. I am on day 2 and was tempted to pick on some thing but I won't. We need to push thru this. 🤗

Hi [emoji112] my surgery is May 14th and I’m on straight Protein Shakes, 5/day to be exact. I can have raw broccoli or carrots after 3 days if I must chew. Idk how I’m going to make it. I really want spare ribs with pork fried rice [emoji24][emoji24]

We are going to be surgery twins. I have the same date for surgery. Good luck.

I’m glad my post could help someone it’d helped me so much, everyone is so supportive and truly understand the struggle. Day 2 for me as well. Yesterday was much worse for me. Today I’m still a mess but it’s bearable. I think what has helped is that I took an empty bottle of my premier shake and i fill it with Water and drink it and then straight after that I’ll drink my Protein Shake and after that I fill it back with water again and drink it. So for ever 10oz of Protein shake I’m drinking 20oz of water YUK! I feel like I’m dry drowning [emoji30] I hate water but this works for me to keep hydrated and I guess fill my stomach more.

Y’all. I thought I was tough. I’m on day one preop liquid diet and I feel like such a pansy. I’m miserable— my head is killing me, I’m nauseated, and I’m shaky. I’ve been a total bear to my coworkers today cause I feel extra cranky. I needed to find this thread to know I’m not alone. If I’m having this much trouble on the preop diet, how am I going to succeed post op??? My surgery is scheduled May 9, and now I’m scared I’m not up for it. My weight has been the only thing in my life that I can’t conquer.... I guess I didn’t expect to have such a struggle with something so simple as one day of a liquid diet. Please tell me that this is a normal reaction preop. 😬

Hang in there. I'm on day 2 and I couldn't sleep well last night and some serious headaches. I also am cranky and really tired but I heard it gets better. It's not easy but if we continue gainiby weight, we are not living life the way we should be. I'm miserable with my current weight and I think vsg will be a great tool to begin feeling better and enjoying all the great things in life. Don't doubt yourself and if you need support, continue to reach out here. This really helps. We all got this 🤗

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
