What is your post op diet like?

Recommended Posts

I am curious to see what everyone’s post op diet is.

I had VSG on 4/16 and have 7 days of Clear Liquids. I can have powdered Protein but can’t handle the taste, so I have a bit of protein through the clear premier Proteins. I will be sure to increase my protein when I can have shakes again, but I am doing good on the fluids.

For the next three weeks I am on a full liquid diet. (I hope this helps a bit with weakness and hunger, I am struggling on the clear diet)

Then it is puréed for another 3 weeks.

Then we finish with soft foods for 4 weeks.

My doc says he is really conservative, so I am interested to know how other people are doing on their post op diet.

Age: 37

Height: 5’6

liquids for that long is tough, for sure. Try some of the bone broths for more Protein and variety. All the sweet from protein Water gets old! My doctor advised clear liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 2 weeks, purees for 2 weeks, then soft foods for 2 weeks. He cleared me for solid food at my 6 week checkup.

Unfortunately, my stomach disagrees with this plan of action. Any solid protein I eat Just sits in my stomach like a handful of hot rocks, so I've gone back to purees and mushy foods for a while. I can eat 2-3 ounces of soft food, but only 1-1.5 ounces of solid foods. I'm not typical, though. You'll just have to see what your stomach can handle. Good luck!

Our program was liquids, mushes/purees and soft Proteins like fish or Beans from the hospital on out, progressing as individual tolerances allowed. Try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance and if went down OK that was great but if not, go back to things that worked before and try again in a week or two. My wife was slower to progress than I was as she probably had more inflammation in her stomach, but we were both within the normal progression range.

I'm 12 days post op and have to do 2 weeks of clear liquids although i can do the shakes but seems like any type of shakes or protien powder really upsets my stomach so getting my protien has been really hard. I'm trying to get my protien through the premier clear liquid drinks, that's going ok. I move onto puree foods this Wednesday for two weeks then soft foods for 2-4weeks. Introducing one new food at a time.

Mine was 3 days clear liquid, a week of full liquids, 2 weeks of blended foods, and 2 weeks of soft foods. After the full liquids stage, I was 2-3 days early to every stage because I'm impatient. For what it's worth, I consume now less calories on solid foods (that includes gourmet foods from restaurants and snacks) than I did on blended foods. I was one of those who some foods felt incredibly easy to eat, and other foods truly showed me how restricted my sleeve is. Foods like yogurt, Soups, any beverages including thick Protein Shakes, I could have endlessly, luckily I am not a fan of any of those things now ever since my post op diet.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
