Did anyone feel hungry after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I don’t know if it’s head hunger, but I feel like I was literally hunger after surgery. Still to this day. I’m 3 days out. Is it because I’m on liquids and everyone is eating food around me?

Also- my surgeon says the hunger feeling may be just irritation to the lining of my stomach from surgery.

Please tell me other people felt hungry?? :( I know it’s only 3 days out but what if my stomach is too big or this isn’t going to work for me :(

Hang in there. You will feel more satisfied as your diet progresses to real food.

The first stages are rough. Yes, I felt hungry. Your stomach is not too big.....it's because you are on liquids and people are eating in front of you.

This surgery is going to work for you. Trust the process.

Yes and no. I came out of surgery in pain. After about 3 days I felt hungry but the Protein Drinks kept me satisfied. When it was time to eat soft foods...I was so scared lol. It took me about 3 hours to eat 1/4 cup of yogurt

jenn1 is correct. I too felt hungry while on the liquid stage post op. I stayed on full liquids for 3.5 weeks and it was rough. Just started soft solids yesterday and it is a whole new ball game. Follow your teams instructions and this will work for you. No doubt about that. ;)

Hi, yes I am on liquids for 3 weeks. My program doesn’t use Protein Shakes. I’m so glad someone else felt hungry- because I thought I was crazy. Also- when did you start feeling restriction? Was it when you went on more solid foods?

I have not yet felt the restriction! They told me that I would feel a "tightness" in my chest. I have yet to feel that. I do get a feeling down where my stomach was that is slightly uncomfortable but, I don't think that is it.

I am using these little 4 oz ramekin dishes to control portions. I make sure that I keep myself at 3-4 ounces so maybe I am not full yet? Kind of nervous about pushing the envelope.

I know! :( Hang in there. Once you get to soft solids, you will no longer starve. Promise.

I do know that you will not feel the restriction on liquids for sure.

Also, I have been sticking to very soft food so far. It may take denser Protein and maybe the swelling to heal a bit more before I feel restriction.

So you are not getting in any Protein? Three weeks of no protein after surgery? Can I ask where you had your surgery done? Sorry I'm just a bit surprised. Never heard of this before.

I felt hungry and it wasn’t because other people were eating as I live alone. It got better by a week out. Some of it may be stomach acid but I was really shocked!

Me too. 3 weeks out. The dietitian told me it's in my head but I'm 57 and I'm pretty sure i know what hunger pangs are by now, surgery or no surgery. I've been on pureed diet for 1 week. I just don't feel satisfied. At all! [emoji53]

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
