Did anyone feel hungry after surgery?

I don’t know if it’s head hunger, but I feel like I was literally hunger after surgery. Still to this day. I’m 3 days out. Is it because I’m on liquids and everyone is eating food around me?

Also- my surgeon says the hunger feeling may be just irritation to the lining of my stomach from surgery.

Please tell me other people felt hungry?? :( I know it’s only 3 days out but what if my stomach is too big or this isn’t going to work for me :(

The first stages are rough. Yes, I felt hungry. Your stomach is not too big.....it's because you are on liquids and people are eating in front of you.

This surgery is going to work for you. Trust the process.

Yes and no. I came out of surgery in pain. After about 3 days I felt hungry but the protein drinks kept me satisfied. When it was time to eat soft foods...I was so scared lol. It took me about 3 hours to eat 1/4 cup of yogurt

Hi, yes I am on liquids for 3 weeks. My program doesn’t use protein shakes. I’m so glad someone else felt hungry- because I thought I was crazy. Also- when did you start feeling restriction? Was it when you went on more solid foods?

I have not yet felt the restriction! They told me that I would feel a "tightness" in my chest. I have yet to feel that. I do get a feeling down where my stomach was that is slightly uncomfortable but, I don't think that is it.

I am using these little 4 oz ramekin dishes to control portions. I make sure that I keep myself at 3-4 ounces so maybe I am not full yet? Kind of nervous about pushing the envelope.

I’m 9 days post op and starving!

I know! :( Hang in there. Once you get to soft solids, you will no longer starve. Promise.

I do know that you will not feel the restriction on liquids for sure.

Also, I have been sticking to very soft food so far. It may take denser protein and maybe the swelling to heal a bit more before I feel restriction.

@GeorgieDean If you are not allowed protein shakes, how are you getting your protein in?

So you are not getting in any protein? Three weeks of no protein after surgery? Can I ask where you had your surgery done? Sorry I'm just a bit surprised. Never heard of this before.

I felt hungry and it wasn’t because other people were eating as I live alone. It got better by a week out. Some of it may be stomach acid but I was really shocked!

Yes!! I am STARVING. Currently day three since surgery and my stomach rumbles constantly and I only want to eat eat eat! Any tips people??

The first 3-4 days I also felt hungry. I just kept drinking water and it has gone away by day 9. It also may be from excess stomach acid. Talk to your doctor. I did lose 10 lbs so far so it’s worth it.!
