I actually only have a 2-day pre-op diet required, but I’m thinking of joining everyone on their pre-op plans as I’m nervous about my liver being too big. I haven’t found many others that didn’t have at least a 1 week pre-op. Anyone have a 2-day liquid pre-op and do okay?

Mine was two days- thankfully!

Technically my 2 weeks doesn't start until Tuesday, but I figured I'd start today because lbr my liver could probably use the help. My doctor gives us a completely liquid option or one that allows lean Proteins and veggies. Friday-Monday, I'm doing the meal diet, then starting Tuesday I'm going all in with liquid. I figure if I can commit to my doctor's recommendation, I have no business having surgery.... easy to say on day one, right!

I’m doing a VLCD programme that has shakes, Soups and meals packets, all around 150 calories with about 15g Protein each. Dead easy as there’s good variety! I did those from a month out with a proper meal in evening and them exclusively from the two week mark. 10kg down so pretty happy! Hopefully lose 10% of body weight by surgery so 4kg to go.

9 days to go...

Is anyone else exhausted on their pre-op diet? I've only been doing this for two days, but I can't make it through a day without napping. I can't have caffeine or a sugar rush... what else is there to keep me going throughout the day??

Started my 10 day preop diet today. 3 shakes and a meal every day. Napped a lot today. Currently hungry. Think I’ll have a sugar free Jello [emoji16]

Hi, I felt exhausted, wiped out and headaches also. I read a post where someone said her dr said to get electrolyte sachets from chemist and it would help. Just be careful to get sugar free. I think a lot of it for me is the fact I was eating lots of multigrain bread and suddenly stopped. I find I'm craving cakes and hot chocolates suddenly which is unusual for me.

Just finishing day 5 of my 14 day preop diet and am very glad that it is going good. Having 3 Premier Protein shakes per day and 1 meal of 3 oz. Protein and 1 cup of vegetables. I can also have dill and sugar free sweet pickles as well as the usual Crystal Light, Powerade Zero, sugar free popsicles/jello. and Water. Up to about 20 minutes on the elliptical and 10 minutes free weights daily. Surgery is May 2!! I am really excited!!

Thanks for the tip! My doctor said I can put anything in Water as long as it’s zero calories, so I just bought some of those packets... hopefully that’ll help. It’s killing me right now because I’m trying to get a ton of work done before I have surgery so I don’t have to worry about rushing back.

I’m not having any specific cravings.... everything sounds good to me right now! I can barely watch tv because EVERY commercial is about food!

Hi Everyone!

Today is my first day of two weeks pre op diet. I had a muscle milk drink for Breakfast and it was gross, lol. Anyone have suggestions of good Protein Drinks?

Mine is a 2 week all Clear liquid diet. I'm only allowed Protein Shakes, broth, sugar free Popsicles, and Jello. I'd give anything to be able to have 1 small healthy meal a day or at the very least cream liquids like Soups and pudding.... Luckily I'm on day 13 today and Surgery is Wednesday.

As for the BMI mine is only 40.8 so we can round up to 41. BMI of 40 is needed for surgery with no comorbidities. 35 if you have 2 or more comorbidities. So I'm almost positive its not BMI related since my surgeon makes Everyone do the diet! Plus from what I've seen almost everyone on here as to do some form of a diet.

Premier Protein Shakes are my favorites. Lots of flavors and 30 grams of protein! Keeps me nice and full. Available at Walmart or through Amazon. Good luck.

I love the Premiere shakes, as well. I heat up a chocolate one for breakfast. It tastes like hot cocoa. The Carmel one is a little sweet, but still okay. There is also

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
