Surgery 4/27... starting to get nervous and cold feet

Recommended Posts

Starting to get cold feet. I’m so ready to start a new life, but the aspect of the irreversibility (WLS VSG) and the depression people seem to fall into in the first couple of months, and the fact that food is my best friend, my consolation and I’m taking it away from myself scares me. But it scares me as well to continue the way I am and die at an early age or never live my life the way I know I can because of my weight.

Goodbye junk food,my oldest friend.*

It's time our relationship,ends*

I've found a better way to live and spend my days *

And before you can kill me, you're going away.*

It won't be easy and it will take some of my time*

There are roads to travel and mountains I must climb*

Our relationship wasn't good for my body, wasn't good for my soul*

So,goodbye junky food and now let the good times roll![emoji14][emoji106][emoji14]*March 29, 2018

Sherlocked,

I've been feeling the same way. Actually, kind of a roller coaster. Logically, I know that I need this tool and am willing to endure. But, the irreversibility has me afraid and every once in a while I think about how much I enjoy food and how much comfort it brings me. What am I going to do? Where am I going to turn for that kind of comfort?

Having been banded in the past, the only answers to those questions is that I managed it before and if the band hadn't made me so physically uncomfortable, I'd still be living that life. So, I go on telling myself that I am more than my addiction to food and am absolutely worth the effort.

I am scheduled 4/16 and although I am nervous, I am ready to take control. I don’t want food to control my life. I know it’s not the same, but years ago I took phentermine and I remember feeling free, free from always feeling hungry and free from the need to eat large portions to feel full. I have yearned for that feeling for years, and although I can lose weight, keeping it off is so hard. I know the sleeve is only a tool, but it’s a tool that will help me for the long run, instead of one yo-yo diet after another. I am so ready to do this.

Age: 37

Height: 5’6

BMI: 37

VSG scheduled for 4/16/18

GW: 160

MFP: Fit4LifeAR

I felt the same way before surgery. I kept yo yoing back and forth the week prior, right up until the morning of surgery. I'm two months post op now and I'm glad that I did go through with it. The first few weeks were horrible, with your body adjusting and healing but after that I felt better. I had the surgery done because I was so overweight I was causing severe damage to my spine. Now, my back doesn't hurt anymore and I'm off of half of my medicine. I found that I don't miss chocolate or junk food anymore either. I think that you can do this. Just keep looking forward to your goals and get a good support network :)

Doing the pre-surgery liquid diet, on day 7 and instead of losing weight I somehow managed to gain 1 lb. I'm told it is Water weight due to the increased H20 and high sodium content in the broth but it still concerns me. My surgery is Monday and it's freaking me out at this point. Has anyone else experienced weight gain during the 600 calorie, no sugar liquid diet?

Ugh, I am right there with you. My surgery is April 27, and I will need to start the pre-op diet very soon. Still thinking of my last meal...like I am on death row. May have to have several! XD

I went to a support group and tried to listen to all the positive stories to get me enthusiastic, but nah. Hopefully the progress I make will make it seem worth it.

*Big hugs*

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
