Hi I’m a Jersey girl newbie

I'm doing ok,it's just a struggle to get my protein in. I'm down 60 pounds now. I have back issues so I decided to work with a physical therapist for a few months first. I do that twice a week and it's been working out pretty well for me.
  5. Hello, I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on February 1 of this year. I've been having problems getting enough protein, liquid, and food in from the second week on. I've had some issues with all kinds of protein shakes, where I get extremely nauseas while drinking them or severe gastric distress. So, for the last six weeks I've been drinking clear protein, soup, and Apple sauce. As of a week ago, I developed an allergy to the protein that I was drinking and it makes me throw up now. I spoke with my surgeon and he told me that I do need to try more things, especially solid foods. I've been slowly trying since then. Like I can eat a tiny meatball that I've cooked or a very small piece of chicken, but it takes me almost an hour. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any advice is welcome!

To crush the protonix or not??

Protonix is an extended release medicine, so it shouldn't be crushed. Thanking are pretty small, so they are easy to swallow.
  9. I felt the same way before surgery. I kept yo yoing back and forth the week prior, right up until the morning of surgery. I'm two months post op now and I'm glad that I did go through with it. The first few weeks were horrible, with your body adjusting and healing but after that I felt better. I had the surgery done because I was so overweight I was causing severe damage to my spine. Now, my back doesn't hurt anymore and I'm off of half of my medicine. I found that I don't miss chocolate or junk food anymore either. I think that you can do this. Just keep looking forward to your goals and get a good support network
  10. I use the vitamin patches. They work great for me, since just the smell of chewable vitamins have me dry heaving now. The patches are small, maybe an inch all together. I put one in my back in the morning then take it off the next day and get a new one.

    Post-Op Medications

I was given Protonix to help with any reflux and dilaudid for pain. I'm a pain management patient and I was taking dilaudid prior to my surgery for break through pain, so you might get a different painkiller. Good luck!

    Vitamin Suggestions

I've been using vitamin patches from bariatricpal that work well. I get insanely nauseas from the smell of the chewable vitamins now so I have these a try.

    Scar tissue pre surgery

I had a lot of abdominal scar tissue from prior surgeries. My surgeon told me after surgery that the scar tissue had formed adhesions and he had to cut it away. Scar tissue is common and it is relatively simple form your surgeon to take care of that while he's working on you. It shouldn't cost extra because it's just another part of the same surgery. Good Luck!
