Can we just be for real ???

No. It was for my health alone. I liked the way I looked fat, my husband was attracted to me, so no issues there. I knew looking worse after surgery was a possibility. And I do look worse. Loose skin sucks, rapid weight loss ages the face. I cover myself up more than I ever before. But thems the breaks. this is if course a personal thing—and not a critique on anyone. Many many people love the way they look after surgery, they gain tons of confidence and this is a wonderful thing. But not liking the way you look afterwards is also completely normal, so If you’re out there feeling this way, don’t feel alone.

    Cost of surgery -- WOW

My insurance was charged in the vicinity of $40,000 which included a hiatal hernia repair. I was responsible for $300 of it.
  3. It really depends on your own tolerance level. Everyone heals different and at their own pace. A lot of those foods you mentioned caused so much discomfort for the first nine 9 months, I didn't even want to look at them. But at nearly 15 months out I can eat almost an entire slice of NYC slice sized pizza but it is still rather uncomfortable. And its really not something I indulge in more than once or twice a month because I feel so bloated afterwards. Burgers, if I take off the top fluffier part of the bun, I can eat half of a restaurant sized burger. I am not going to preach, but regain is real, my friend. Just be careful and remember--salad is on almost every menu.

    Depressed

I understand your depression and disappointment. You do something drastic, you are in pain, you lose one of your bestest friends and comforts (food) and now you want it to count. And you are starting higher than others at over 300 pounds, and so losing 30 pounds in one month seems perfectly reasonable because you've seen others post about the same results ---it's possible, so why not to you too! We forget that age, sex, genetics--all the things we can't control --play a huge part. Just remember there are going to be stalls, heck there will be times that you gain two pounds over night for smelling a cookie, these things will drive you nuts and will always suck. Everyone goes through it. EVERYONE. You are not alone. Stick with that program and you will get your results. My team said to expect 8-12 pounds of loss every month for the first 6 months, 6-8 pounds for months 7-12. So even if you are on the low end of expectations you'd still lose 84 pounds in a year. And, hey, that is not bad! Good luck to you.
  5. I’m in! What do you eat on the FMD? How complicated would you say it is?

I like these! Both (but probably lean more towards cats) Impatient! Star Wars Big frigging NAY! I find these subs sooooooo gross, and as a big former ice-cream person I have tried them all. Real deal all the way.
  7. Welcome newbies @RoRoKitty & @Aprilgal! I am 36 hours in to a planned 84 hour fast. Having a terrible time keeping my head in the game lately. IF, even OMAD is not keeping me honest. I think I am a EF type of girl. One thing in for certain, I have got to get back on the ball!! Is any else attempting an EF soon? Could always use the company!

#16 Listened to the Keto Diet Podcast (Leanne Vogel), episode w/ Ashley Salvatori. I play with keto but I am not all in. Still can't believe that so much fat can ultimately be good for you. Especially since many of the people in my IF groups that do keto have terrible bloodwork. But i am open minded---and desperate!! #17 Did this last weekend, but I can't seem to dump my old clothes. they are piled in bags in the bottom of my closet. Day 3 of my no junk food challenge. I want to murder someone.
  11. I didn’t start IF until month 11. I gained 8 pounds in March from eating off plan. I was able to take it off plus three with IF & EF. Its a good thing to have in the arsenal but not this early out in the battle plan. I still have issues getting in my nutrients on IF.
  12. Aw, many thanks! But I think an 8 day binge takes away all brownie points 😋 didnt make my 48 hours. Ate after 20 and turned it into an OMAD day (redundancies...). 23 hours in today. Hopefully I make it to 36. Being a bit smarter about my BP this time around and taking 50 calories of solid non carby food with my BP pills to avoid me having to quit because of spikes. That rules out autophagy but it’s better than not fasting. The resetters always seem so complicated!! I don’t know if I have the discipline and focus for it with my schedule. But I will take a look. Btw, don’t know if this is Keto/IF related but my period stopped. I am 37 so while possible, I doubt it’s menopause. I am sure to get an earful if I bring fasting up with the obgyn. And the damage done by an 8 day binge....10 pounds😖😖😖 my body sucks. Scientifically that means I consumed 35,000 calories in 8 days (which I didn’t even come close to). Ah, the wondrously broken biochemistry of the formally obese....
  13. I am around. Had a rough week, not fasting. I think trying to add keto killed me, it just gears me up to binge. Going back to my low carb, moderate fat ways. Good luck on your weekend feasting! I still haven't gotten to the point where I can easily bounce back to my IF and EF after a very indulgent weekend. BUT I know you are not one for over indulgence, so I suspect you'll do fine. As for the video--- veganism = bad ---> personal theory confirmed.
  14. Needed to hear this today. Started a 48 hour fast (maybe 60 if I feel ok tomorrow night). I have been downright binge eating. I have no idea why I am like this. But today I am not binge eating so that is what I will focus on.

Feeling tired. Fell off the wagon big time, hoisting my saggy butt back on. Restarting my 10 day junk food challenge tomorrow since I only made it five days on my first go. Got an air fyer for mothers days so hoping to learn some tasty healthy recipes. Its taco Tuesday, so I make that from scratch. I always throw my taco meat over lettuce and just have a salad.

    Let's talk about body dysmorphia

When I was 377 pounds, I didn't realize how big I was until I'd see myself in pictures. When i was in the low 300s, I think I realized my size, but since I liked the way I looked, I felt sexy and womanly, it wasn't this bad thing. Now, I realize that I am technically smaller, but I don't feel like this is a good thing. Like I am not smaller in the way I should be. Loose skin and the lost of my once impressive chest and booty is a very hard adjustment. I randomly get upset when I pass a mirror. My husband says I look great with clothes on and that my figure is still shapely, but it is very hard to see it myself. Hopefully after I manage to get some plastic surgeries done I will start to accept the new me.

    Dr. Now.

Girl, I have this hanging on my desk at work... plus I got an etsy magnet of him on my fridge that reads "Why you eat so much?" He is that voice of reason in my fat head! 😄

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

You look gorgeous! Enjoy the wedding. I just eat what I want at events, just much smaller amounts--but I generally don't have bad reactions to most foods. And that vanity sizing annoys the figs out of me. I got size 12s in my closet from like 2005 that I can barely zip but I was slipping into size 8 dresses this weekend like it was nothing. Humph---I still crinkle my nose sometimes when folks tell me "oh, I'm a size 6" and I'm thinking, Bish, no you ain't! ---((you do look like a size 6-8 btw tho.))

My blood pressure is still awful, this was my #1 reason to get WLS. I don't know how to proceed at this point. I eat healthy, I move every day, I take my meds, I monitor my pressures. There seems to be no other course than to just live with it.

Well, I was sweating yesterday waiting for the quote on my daughter's orthodontic expander!! Insurance is covering half--but whoa doggie. Eggs - hard-boiled or scrambled, that hasn't changed since surgery. One year follow up visit went well yesterday, they clocked me in at 181.5 (I totally like their scale better than mine!). Mini goal reached. I also made a crucial decision regarding my plastics. I am getting something called smart lipo on my arms instead of a brachioplasty. I had made the very hard decision to not get my breasts done at the moment. I am having a bit of a midlife mommy crisis---if I get my breasts done I am closing the door on having more children forever because I won't risk undoing my breast lift. I am not sure if I even want another kid, I just can't close the door. I am giving myself one more year to decide. Secondly, mah belly!! I don't really have much fat left in my belly but man does that skin hang and cause a bulge that rivals my boobs. At my chest's current shrink rate, a lift right now would most definitely leave my stomach sticking out further than my boobs. I can't have that. So, to wrap it up I am going to wait until next year when I have my tummy tuck for my breast lift. And I didn't want to pay all the crazy surgical fees for just the brachioplasty, so smart lipo it is and hopefully I will have great results. I don't craft, but I wish you godspeed on all of yours. I will listen to the beastie boys, "she's crafty" in all your honors.

    Allowing for occasional treats

I have no camp here---I understand the strict restriction club, because I have terrible control. I can have none or seven. If I am to succeed this is where I will need to live most days. That being said, during my past year I was more in the moderation camp in practice. I lost weight (117 pounds in the year) however I could have done much much better if I cut out all the treats I allowed myself. So yes, you can have those treats once or twice a week but it will slow you down, and you won't get the full benefit of your WLS. I think staying strict until you hit maintenance is the best advice, it is actually the advice my nutritionist gave me (and I didn't take). She said the scoop of ice cream, the slice of pizza is ok once in a while but wait until you are at goal. I wish I listened because I know I would have been at goal by now if I did. Good luck!

I was high so I can ignore my sleeve to some extent, and at a year out my sleeve capacity is much more than what it was at 6 months. What i ate was a normal dinner (one small grilled chicken fajita, scoop of re-fried black beans), a few mini cornbread muffins, then later on I had a 100 calorie pack of almonds, two sips of strawberry milk, a croissant, and a med size blueberry muffin. That is quite a lot for a 4 hour span!

Good morning fellow May Ladies! Was doing super well on my no junk food challenge until I fell off the wagon big time last night --cinco de fail-o. From about 6-10 I stuffed my face. Guess I will be adding on one more day to the end, going to the 11th of May to make up for it. On the plus side, Saturday morning I weighed in at 183.2 - extremely close to tomorrow's mini-goal. Now of course this was before I binged last night! Hopefully tomorrow I will be staring at 183 even. I will count this post as talking to friends.
