I was allowed to go to puree after my first post-op visit (12 days out), but every doctor is different (some folks left the hospital without a liquid phase). From my doctor's explanation these rules seem to be made up based on the least common denominator. Heck I told my doctor I wanted a pickle and he was basically gave me the go ahead to try anything so long as I chewed it well. The trick is that once you first start on food it is going to fill you up quick so in some ways its going to be even harder to get your Protein in.

My default advice for this is Protein water--there are several different brands and you can get it on Amazon if not in a local store. I still have shakes occasionally but have pretty much settled on chocolate as the only flavor I can stand. If you can find an acceptable way to get protein otherwise, go for it--maybe puree beef or chicken Soup, for example. Drink some milk if you can tolerate that? Try some Oikos triple-zero yogurt when allowed.

Good luck--getting sick of Protein Shakes seems to be pretty normal!

I had 21 day postop liquids...and I’m now in my 2 weeks of puréed. My surgeon is pretty conservative, but I’m all in with that...it’s not great, but what felt great is what got me here....

Just be open and creative and try different things until you find what works.

You can do this!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
