Was your recovery hard with this? My revision. From lap band to RNY with hernia repair is in 5 days.. I’m so excited!

I was expecting it to be much harder than it was. My recovery went well. I never experienced a lot of pain, I was uncomfortable at times, however I did take my pain meds every 4 hours. I figured it was best to stay on top of it instead of waiting until I was hurting to ask for it. They did have me up and walking every for hours, I think that helped a lot too. My biggest problem when I got home was trying to sleep on my side so I spent a few nights in my recliner. If I new I would get along as well as I have, I would have done this years ago. I know I'm just 3 weeks out but no regrets thus far. I hope all goes well with you.

I am feeling very anxious and somewhat discouraged waiting on my surgery, most of the Water has been removed from the band and i am eating what seems to me like a lot of food and gaining weight. My surgery is still 2 months away come on May. Anyone else had the band to RNy revision and if so how is it going.

I am a band revision patient as well (or I will be on 4/27) and I am going with sleeve. Did I make the right choice? Just wondering what made you guys go from band to RNy?

My choice for RNY was based on my research and its' success of treating diabetes. When I first had my consultation with my surgeon and he reviewed my medical records and we talked about my condition he also recommended the RNY.

My mom is also getting the sleeve...neither of us are tremendously overweight...she is battling diabetes as well - I wonder if that is a better option for her as well ?!?

For me it was all about GERD. The lapband caused me all kinds of problems with acid reflux, etc... My doctor said that the sleeve was not a good choice for me because it was more likely to cause GERD issues than the RnY.

For the record, I have had no complications and the acid reflux and GERD are gone. The RnY has been a total success for me.

That being said, there may be very valid reasons why your doctor is recommending the sleeve over the RnY. Every patient is different.

Best of luck to you on your upcoming surgery!

I believe both surgeries can be very beneficial for diabetes. Even though I thought the RNY was the right thing for me, I was open to whatever my surgeon recommended. It seemed to me there was more data out there about RNY and diabetes. In my pre-op class, about a week before my surgery, there was a gentleman that was not near as overweight as I was. He was there because his diabetes was out of control and he was having the sleeve, by the same surgeon. I don’t know what lead him to choose the sleeve, but I have to think my surgeon thought it would be beneficial to him. I know it’s a tough decision to make, in my opinion I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I’m sure there are others on here that have had success in treating their diabetes with the sleeve. My advice would be to consult with your doctor over these concerns.

Hoping the best for you and your mother.

I have Barrett's esophagus, gerd and hiatal hernia with my lap band so the only choice was the RNY for me, but my brother had the sleeve done a few years ago and has lost a tremendous amount of weight and is off all prescription medication so either way as long as the weight comes off you will benefit.

I was banded in 2002. I had my band removed July 2016 and was revised to a sleeve during the surgery. I haven’t lost any weight as i am constantly hungry and suffer greatly with GERD and severe gastritis. I will be having yet another revision May 3rd, out of state, to RNY. I am very anxious about the recovery 😕.

I started my 2 week pre-op diet today and always feel the first 2 days are the hardest. Anyone else starting pre-op today?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
