I wish the stay in the hospital was longer. The pain meds are better and it was easier to move around. At home it is much more difficult. Thank you for whoever told me to buy gas x. It’s saving me right now. Pain pills are terrible and too tough to take for not much help. I’ve switched to liquid Tylenol as it’s easier and takes the edge off.

And that day I will be having my 2 hour psychology appointment with OSU staff psychologist Dr Kramer at Martha Morehouse Pavilion in Columbus Ohio. Let's wish each other good fortune on that day. This appointment,is pivotal point on my journey to my RnY. I'm trying to not be apprehensive but I can't help but be a little.[emoji3]

Hi, my surgery was April 24 and all went well. I have had no problems whatsoever. No problems with eating drinking, pain or anything. Hope you all have had a successful surgery as well. Please let me know how you are doing. My weight loss is not what I expected but I am losing.

Hi April surgery buddies, I had the RNY on 23 April. I just wanted to reach out to others close to my date. I’ve been on normal diet for the past 10 days and it hasn’t been easy. Was easier in a way with all the restrictions!!! Emotionally I’m battling. It was my dad’s tombstone unveiling this past weekend and on the day, I had 30 family members for lunch afterwards. My whole eating plan went haywire and I’ve been feeling very down since then. I reverted to my old emotional eating pattern - albeit much less food. But I’m only 7 weeks post surgery and this really upset me. Anyone else battling?

Hey everyone...my surgery was 4.18 and I am also struggling with integrating solid foods...I find myself throwing up a lot after I think a lot of the time it may be not taking enough time to eat? I feel like I am but it’s tough. What is everyone eating at this point?

I'm an April surgery (2005).

I puked a lot my first year. Mostly bc I was drinking too much after eating as I was parched. It could definitely be bc you're eating too quickly or too much too quickly. This isn't to say you're eating too much (especially if it's protein) it just may be too much at one sitting. I still need 2 or more sittings for a meal.

My surgery was 4/17. I had 2 stalls one lasted a week and the other about 10 days. I started to eat stuff recently that was on my nutritionist's list of "some people may not tolerate it" like corn, big NO there. I tried deli turkey, nope. I haven't thrown up from food disagreeing with me since starting puréed foods and that was day one and that was it. So now I try new things only at home. Otherwise I'm doing pretty well, I journal, I keep my carbs and sugar low and TRY to eat slowly. Since the start of my pre-op liquid diet (that's how my doctor measures it) I've lost 56 pounds. I fight hunger pangs since day one, but I haven't let it get me, I haven't cheated yet only hard thing is getting my fluids and social situations.

ok so its been 3 months and 1 week since my surgery and wow am I feeling so much better! it took this long to feel better and to be able to eat a little more than 2 bites and be out on social events without feeling weak and sick. Lost like 70 lbs so far... feel good about that!!! Also still getting used to not be able to dink an eat at the same time

It was rough at first for sure for me... duodenal switch, hiatal hernia and gall bladder removed all at once! So yeah Im so happy i feel good for once!

I need to get more Protein in , still working on that but im going to try the Protein Shakes again... until now... i could not stand any of them ... most smells of food made me sick and that has gotten better too... I still dont like certain smells of food cooking... but i can deal with that.

I am just glad I can feel normal again and I am glad I can only eat a small amount. thats wonderful on my grocery bill and my cooking!

So anyone having a rough time... give it at least 3 months... although I can only speak for myself, but I thought I would never feel good again... 3 months seemed so long to me but I had to think about what I have just been through and that it takes time to heal from 3 operations all done at one time!

Duodenal switch! Wow you rock! That's a tough one. Ugh the smells, the smell of coffee makes me gag, but I never drank coffee anyway. Lots of smells make me gag, it's lovely. I'm three months out too, I hate the waiting to drink part, mostly because I have trouble getting my fluids in. I have an issue with carb cravings, that's why I stay as far away from them as I can, but if I have any kind of sweet thing, it takes me a week to stop craving sweet stuff or even crackers but I don't give in, I know my triggers. This only happened because of a bite of my daughter's birthday cake! Ugh. I hope everyone is doing well, I'm in the midst of a stall that started about 4-5 days ago :(

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
