What do you wish that you did before your sugery?

Recommended Posts

I'm about a week away from my gastric sleeve surgery (3/14/2018). I've taken a fair amount of before pictures, I measured my waist, hips, arms, thighs, and neck so I can use that to track if I'm losing when the scale inevitably plateaus, and I think I have the essentials packed for surgery (gas-x, biotene, baby spoons, all my Vitamins for the first month, Water bottle).

I was curious about to those who have been through it - what do you wish you had done before surgery to either make it easier, to make your progress more visible, or just simple quality of life things?

I wish I would have taken more before pictures and measured my inches. Those are the only 2 things I can think of. Other than that, I was okay.

Keep in mind that I'm only 6 days post op.... I wish I cleaned my house a little better. Now that I'm at home during the day and not in a rush (as I was before working full time), I am noticing all the little stuff that need tidying up but I don't have any energy to clean.

I have lots of pictures prior to surgery but I never took my measurements and now I wish I would had to know the difference how big around compared to how much smaller but I guess you just put those old jeans on and those old shirts on and you got a pretty good idea.... a clean house is also a plus because when you come home and you're just sitting there.... you see all the little things that you missed .... but as you start feeling better trust me you're going to be so bored you're going to be cleaning your house LOL

Measurements...I kick myself all the time because I completely forgot to do them. If you don't have a fitbit or some other step tracker maybe look into one of those as a way to monitor and increase your step count little by little. And get tons of Water bottles - all different shapes and sizes. I swear, I went through water bottles like they were going out of style. I used them to mix up my Protein Shakes, crystal light, hot tea etc. And I just didn't have the energy to be washing water bottles all day long so having like 5-6 on hand helped a lot. Also grab a few books to read or find a few shows on Netflix or Hulu to keep on for noise. I found that network TV had tons of food commercials that made my head hunger rage during the first few weeks.

And..... I bought a book about what you need to know before and after the sleeve surgery ...but I wish I had it before surgery.... So I still read all the stuff about before you have surgery and it was still good to know .....I still pick it up and re-read to remind myself of all the info that you easily forget

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
