Am I average

Recommended Posts

I am at 6.5 weeks and have lost 30 lbs. what is the average weight loss at this time? Everyone I run into has lost this extreme amount. Makes me freak out!! Some lady just told me about her 59 year old brother who had his surgery right before Christmas and has lost 89lbs already. 😬😭😱

What was your presurgical weight, your weight day of surgery, and your goal weight?

Ok... Just before surgery you were 269...and you would still have a normal BMI at 145 (as a 5'4" person)....so your total excess weight on the day of surgery was about 124 pounds.

People vary...a lot. Stalls happen...a lot. Not because you're doing anything wrong, but because people are just a little biologically different...and can react to the stress of rapid weight loss with some defense mechanisms. It's important to trust the process and stay consistent. It's maddening.

The average person loses about 18% of their excess weight in the first month. 18% of 124....is about 22 pounds.

After that, each month, the average person loses less. At around 6 months, the average person will have lost about 50% of their excess weight...or in your case...about 62 pounds.

Sounds to me like you're losing at a reasonable, pretty average rate.

Best wishes!

I wonder if this is an exaggeration! In your case 30 pounds down in 6.5 weeks sounds good for a sleeve patient. Individuals lose weight at different rates. Individuals with a lot of weight to lose can lose more pounds per day than someone with less weight to lose. The type of surgery also matters. I had gastric bypass surgery and my weight dropped off swiftly and I transitioned into the Maintenance phase at around 7 months. Sleeve patients lose weight at a slower pace but they transition into Maintenance much later, somewhere around 2 years.

By your time I had probably lost 7 lbs or something. It was very slow for me, and stayed very slow. But 6 months did slowly go by and I am 50 lbs down. So just try to be patient. Your body has gone through a shock. The weight will come off.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
