How much?

Recommended Posts

Hey y’all. I have united health care choice plus. My deductible is $1750 and my max out of pocket is $5000. I have an endoscopy scheduled for April and the hospital told me I’ll have to pay $1900 because of my deductible and 20% coinsurance. So how much will I have to pay for the surgery up front? Will it all be billed to me because I’ve met the deductible with the endoscopy?

sorry if this is a silly question but I’m fairly young and don’t know anything about health insurance.

Unfortunately, we don't know anything about your health insurance, either. LOL. Or the hospital you're using.

Best to direct these questions to your insurance provider.

Ask your insurance company directly... they can tell you about the hospital and give you a ballpark figure of what it might cost you

Ballpark math, if your hospital is contracted for the surgery at around $20,000 (this is pretty standard... Again, this is hospital contracted rate with insurance company, NOT charges), then you can guesstimate they'll ask for your 20% coinsurance which would be ~ $4,000.

Most hospitals ask/pressure for this payment up front, but don't require it if you don't have it available. You could ask them to bill you after insurance processes the claim. Also, if you DO pay up front, ask them for a discount for paying pre-surgery. A lot of hosoitals will give you a 20-30% discount for paying up front, but only if you ask.

Thank you so much for the advice! I will definitely try to get them to give me a discount. Thank you!! :):)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
