Congratulations on your weight loss. Are you getting in your required daily Protein? A lack of protein can produce Hair loss.

Eating meats can be difficult after surgery. I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder food such as steak and chicken. It also gave me quite a bit more flavor in my meals. I have included some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Make sure you are not trying to eat too much of a meat. I can still (9 mo. out) only eat a few bites of chicken chewed well. I mostly eat fish , and Soups. Even at six months eggs were hard for me to eat without pain; Now still no Pasta. Many of the girls I had surgery with loved steak and they say it’s still not possible. So just rethink what you eat, boil your chicken and shred it for a meal, and there are many recipes for fish and soups to try. Good luck!

I am 3 months post op gastric sleeve (10/6/2017). I have lost 55 lbs. I am losing clumps of hair and realized I am getting nowhere near enough Protein. I live on a US military base outside the US and it is difficult to buy a lot of fresh protein here. I have been bringing Protein Bars in my suitcase and I cannot buy shakes here either. I thought I was eating okay until I started losing so much hair. I just had to order Muscle Milk on Walmart.com and Amazon.com. I just cannot eat enough protein otherwise.

Yes and yes. I went through both of those. The Hair loss will stop and hopefully you’ll be able to tolerate meat in your own time. It took me some time to be able to tolerate meat!

Kathy51, are you taking your Vitamins? Have you had blood test yet to check your Vitamin levels? You may also be ,ow on vitamin B or D, and to be low on these can also caus Hair loss. The chewable, liquid, or melt vitamins are the best to absorb. There are also patch vitamins. All of the choices are available also on Amazon. As far as Protein goes, you don’t have to do fresh. Most of my protein, still comes from canned tuna or chicken, or soft eggs, and Protein Shakes. Canned meat is much easier because you can moisten it with Greek protein and just a small bit of mayo to get a better taste. You could also puréed carrots to put in it for more nutrients.

The other thing that I did besides vitamins is a vitamin B injection once a week. After beginning this as well as my Vitamin D was low (as shown with blood work) my hair loss stopped.

When you do go for your blood work, remember to ask for a vitamin B and a vitamin D level, they are separate blood test from a CBC. But, a vitamin B injection, many places offer these injections, without blood work. I hope this helps, good luck.

I am taking my chewable multi Vitamin, a "hair, skin & nails " vitamin and a Calcium chewable every day since my surgery. I think the problem is that I have not been eating enough Protein. I am taking care of that with a 40 g Protein Shake and a 20 g Protein Bar every day now. Hopefully that will fix it. I live on a US military base and canned meat is actually more of a neccessity where I am. I'll definantly get my bloodwork done when I get the chance. Thanks for the advice!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
