Diarrhea during post-op liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had my surgery on 1/10. The first few days were a bit rough with gas pain, but now that I am on day 6, I'm actually feeling really great. I am currently on a clear liquid only diet (SF Popsicles, broth, WATER). I'm getting my liquids in, I'm walking (avg 8,000 steps a day). I feel like I'm doing very well! Unfortunately, yesterday and now today I had two explosive BM movements. Both had a yellow/brown watery consistency. It reminded me when I had tried the Ally pills (diet pills). Those pills used to take some of the fat out of food. But I'm not eating any food. So it seems weird. I feel great otherwise. I do not feel sick or weak. I'm getting my chores done. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or knows why this may happen? I've called and left a vm with my Dr. office and haven't heard back yet. So wanted to try my luck here to see if anyone else experienced this too. Thanks!

We are surgery sisters, and I’ve been the exact same way!! Mine started the day before surgery. I was on a liquid diet then as well. I’ve heard from some different fb groups that this is normal, but I also plan on bringing it up to my Doc at my follow up appointment next week. Hey, at least we are going and not constipated!! Glad to hear you are doing so well otherwise!! Keep up the great work!!

PHEW! Thanks for responding. They haven't called me back, so it's nice to hear something. I'm not worried though cause I feel good. but still...... :) Congrats to you! YAY surgery sisters! I was only on a liquid diet for two days prior to surgery. I went 4 days without a BM and I thought that was going to be a problem. But then the gates opened, and I started getting relief! :P

My surgery was 12/28 and I had the same problem during the liquid phase (only had a couple of BMs but when I did, they were dreadfully runny and gross). Everything firmed up once I moved on to puree and is fine now. Good luck!

I have diarrhea in the hospital and once when I came home. A friend who had surgery 6 months ago said she had the same thing. I am now4 days post surgery and the diarrhea seems to have subsided. I have a hard time drinking the Water my dr suggested.

It has happened to me and I was told that it was normal so I didn't worry too much about it. Everything firmed up once I was able to eat actual food.< br>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
