Kind of worried - daily calorie intake

Recommended Posts

Eating 1,000- 1,200 calories at 3 weeks is craziness.

Im roughly 8 weeks and im JUST starting to hit around 1000 calories a day.

I think being 500-800 calories a day is perfectly normal for several weeks. Just make sure to get your Protein and listen to your doc of course

I am confused, if you just had surgery how are you eating? Are you not still in the puree stage?

It is very possible to meet a 1000 calorie goal on purees and soft foods:) Have to work at it, but you can do it. Gets easier as you go. Everyone's tolerance will be different. And again, different groups will encourage you to meet different goals.

I am 14 months post op and hit between 900 and 1200 cal a day.

From the beginning post op, up until 6 months, I was hitting only 600 calories a day. I hit a few weeks at 6 months where I stopped losing weight. I went for a visit with my nutritionist at that time, and she said at the 6 month mark, I needed at least 800 calories. Sure enough, when I started hitting 800, the weight started dropping off again. Prior to month 6, even with only 600 cal a day, I had already lost around 70 pounds.

My nutritionist really had me focus on getting in my Protein, lower carbs, fluids and Vitamins those first months. Calories were never really mentioned prior to that 6 month re-visit with her.

Definitely, with me, I have found it very difficult to reach the calorie limits that other people seem to be able to reach. Even now, at 14 months out, I have to eat about 3 meals a day, which exist of 3 oz tops of protein and a few bites of veggies. Totally fills me up. Then I am able to get in a few "snacks" a day which consist of things like part of an orange, raw red pepper slices or 2 oz rolled up turkey sandwich meat. Sometimes this "menu" doesn't get me above 800 calories, so I will have to throw in an Atkins low carb bar just to boost calories.

Sometimes I think that I am the only one this far out from surgery that struggles to get ìn a 1000 cal day. I even joked with my surgeon and said he must have made my stomach super small. He said that wasn't the case.

I wouldn't worry too much at all if you aren't hitting 1000 cal a day as early post op as you are. You mentioned you aren't always hungry, so that is good. Eat when you are hungry, hit your protein and carb goals, liquids and vitamins. The calories will come.

I was freaking out because I’m able to eat more all of a sudden. I’m 8 months post op and have been eating between 1100 and 1200 calories a day. I’m also up five pounds since last Friday but I think that’s Water retention on top of Constipation. I’m getting in all of my water and exercising. Hopefully everything will start moving again soon. I’m getting frustrated.

Today I’m 4 weeks out from surgery and I’m only consuming 800 calories a day, and that’s following the diet to a T, including Protein goals. I’ve also been in a stall this week, though. I can’t see how I could get more calories in, though, this amount of food is keeping me full as it is.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
