Just curious if anyone is entering into a pre-op exercise program either by choice or as a requirement and if you are, why type of exercise are you going to do?

Me! I have 4 weeks of physical therapy in "BOP", a bariatric optimization program ordered by surgeon. BOP is strongly encouraged by my surgeon both before and after surgery, 4 weeks each, but not mandatory.

I'm starting, tho, with 4 weeks of PT for hips, knees and balance, ordered by ortho. I also picked up a 21-day starter program online with free weights for my upper body. Baby steps :-)

Gotta say, it feels good to move again!! Oh, and I haven't started BOP for another two weeks, so I am curious to say what others have done!

Absolutely! I can only do cardio right now because I just had my gallbladder out, but I am changing my workout to lifting heavy. I’ve worked out for years so it is something I enjoy, but it will be nice to change my focus up a bit.

I’m going to swim up until my surgery. It’s great low impact for me because I wrecked my knee and foot. Lol :)

I started walking with my Fitbit when I started in June. Was a struggle to get my 8000 steps a day.

Today, I can easily do 16,000 steps a day (over seven miles).

Wonderful thing about walking, is that you can do it anywhere. Cleaning house counts. Running errands counts. Walking in circles around my stairwell while playing candy Crush on my cell phone counts (I can usually get 2-3000 steps in my 5 free lives!)

Sometimes, when I'm behind, I'll put in an episode of Dr. Nowzaridin and walk around my house picking up, sweeping and stuff....just getting the steps in. Works great. And my house is lookin spiffy. LOL

Nice, i have a step counter on my watch and i have noticed i can put in a few miles when i am at my son's rugby practice a couple times a week, so that helps too i guess. Im also going to start getting in some more walking each day just for the sake of walking and getting some extra exercise.

During the 6-months of pre-op nutrition visits with my surgeon's office, my program requires at least 30 minutes of cardio activity 3 times per week (they recommend walking) and 30 minutes of strength training or other anaerobic activity 30 minutes 2 times per week. They also require you to track steps and encourage increasing them by 500 each week from your personal baseline.

I have been doing 60 minutes of Water walking 3-4 times per week, 30 minutes on a recumbent stepper twice a week, and about 40 minutes of strength training 3 times per week. My progress with improving mobility and endurance seems slow, but it's certainly better than it would have been otherwise. Walking is still very rough for me, so increasing my steps is difficult.

I actually have an odd exercise regime. I lost weight a few years back dancing burlesque and cabaret. Well I put the weight back on. Of course. Now we have a pole fitness company here so I've joined that. I can't get up the pole yet, partly because I don't trust the pole and my arms to hold me but also because I let my mind hold me back. But I'm hoping as I lose weight, I can get better and actually perform on stage again. I also go the gym about 3 times a week for cardio and strength training (to assist in my pole abilities haha).

Miss LindseyR you're the first pole dancer I've ever met, guess in the heart of Ohio I've lived a sheltered life, but sounds like a great funky exercise. Go for it

I love it. It does work muscles I never use, even with going to the gym. I get sore and I have yet to get off the ground. I frustrates me, but I just keep trying. Haha. I did ask my husband if I can put a pole in the living room to practice. He said no, maybe once we get a bigger house haha. He didn't want to have to explain a pole in the living room to people. Haha!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
