Jacques Pepin on pe-op

Recommended Posts

So I’m sitting here watching PBS cooking shows while I’m on the preop diet. He’s making baked potatoes stuffed tomatoes and chocolate pistachio brittle. A few days ago this would’ve killed me as I was very hungry. I think at this point to certain extent my hunger has left me. I like to cook and I love to watch cooking shows. I look forward to making quality meals of the appropriate portions from expensive cuts of meat & seafood with fresh fruits fruit and vegetables. I like the thought of delicious quality foods over mass quantities of junk food. I don’t consider that a sacrifice at all! My surgery is on January 18th. It’s coming up fast.

This is exactly my attitude as well. No 3rd rate food because why bother?

I bought a case of heirloom oranges, they are only available at this short season of year and I have one a day. I intend to be very picky - no prefab food, if I can help it - traveling sometimes leads to compromises.

Good luck.

Exactly my meaning. Why not spend more money for the good stuff when meals are typically 4-6 ounces. It’s like a plate at a five star restaurant instead of a bag of burgers from McDonalds.

It's good that I am an excellent cook!! I just had an asian spiced turkey burger, mmmm. There is a great cookbook called Asian Grilling by Su-Mei Yu that I love.

dinner today will be Korean barbecued beef on skewers. Garlic, ginger, sesame seeds, cayenne, black pepper, sugar, lemon juice, soy sauce and sesame oil marinade. Served on lettuce w a side of steamed fresh broccoli and carrots. I might make jasmine rice for the family.

Ok. So I ate half the meat on the skewer, 3 bites of broccoli and tried 2 bites of rice....seriously the rice was probably not advised, it's a little stuck right now. (This is an 8" salad plate)

Yum! Your the third person I’ve heard say that rice got stuck or didn’t agree with them. I guess that’s why they call it sticky rice. 😂. I think I’ll be staying clear of that after surgery. I’ve never been a fan of any rice except Spanish Rice & I love that so that kinda sucks.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
