4 Weeks post op - I don’t want to do this anymore [emoji25][emoji25][emoji25]

I have been debating on posting all of this because I’m tired of living it day to day [emoji25]

I am 4 weeks post op and feel like this is the most horrible decision I’ve made. Here is a list of what has been going on :

- I am unable to drink anything other than water and sometimes apple juice or popsicles. Anything thicker comes right back up. Broth, flavored drinks, etc will not stay down.

- I have acid that brings me to tears and wakes me up at night (all night), it makes me feel like I’m going to vomit fire. I am currently taking Prilosec, Zantac, Carafate, and Magic Mouthwash.

- I’m exhausted because I’m not consuming any protein or other nutrients. I’m exhausted because I try to sleep sitting straight up. Any incline makes the acid worse.

- I feel like there is a lump rising up right before I vomit and/or get the acid burn.

My doctor is aware of everything that is going on. He said I’m in a small percent that gets this really bad GERD or reflux and later down the road we might have to do a sleeve to bypass revision. I’m really not okay with that option because I had complications after the sleeve surgery. He isn’t really worried about my lack of nutrients at this point because I’m “only” 4 weeks out. I know guys, only four weeks, but in all honesty I’m miserable 24 hours a day. I have kids, I have a full time job, and I seriously can’t continue like this.

I was also told I now have sludge in my gallbladder so it may need to be removed later.

If anyone can relate to this or tell me it will all be okay I would really appreciate it. I’m at my breaking point and am very disappointed in myself for electing to have this surgery.

What you are writing about is exactly why I am sitting on the fence. Thank you for sharing

There’s always a chance of a side effect, but you know it’s a pretty sure bet? if you don’t have it done you will most likely suffer much worse complications from obesity.

I had my surgery and for six weeks I was in misery. Absolute misery, I was in pain it was hard for me to move around it’s very difficult for me to eat I was also going through a bit of relationship food change depression. I’m now six months postop and happier than I’ve been in my 43 years. I would never trade how great I feel now, how good I look, how successful I’ve been? I’d never trade that to save myself from six weeks of misery. Just remember to keep things in perspective. Almost all the side effects that you’ve read about people suffering are short term. The weight loss, feeling great about yourself when you follow the protocol, being successful, those are long-term and life-changing side effects.

It’s OK to be scared, It means you’re paying attention. But don’t forget the long-haul and don’t forget the life you’d be trying to change. Don’t let other people’s experiences determine what yours will be. Allow your process and journey to be your own. I wish I’d had this done 20 years ago, not that it was around then.

And I have a daily side effect, I get a pretty bad dumping syndrome ( except mine can happen with protein, with vegetables, starches, mine is not limited to just sugar). Which means it any point in time I could just suddenly have to go lay down and crash out for a while. I don’t care, I just make sure not to eat those foods and pay attention to what I’m doing and be careful. Because wearing a size 8 Jean, rocking a striped shirt with a tank top underneath and boots with heels and getting hit on four times yesterday, I’ll take that any day Over wearing a size 36 jeans, being admitted to the hospital and in ICU for seven days and hating every square inch of my 375 lb body.

I really hope that you see more positive than negative when searching through here, because in the end I believe there’s way more positive than negative to having the surgery.

I agree, complications are rare and even on my worst days, the good outweighs the bad. I was really mad that I couldn't order my usual meal from Sonic last week, but happy that I fit comfortably in the seat at the theater I was at before that.

I wish there was an update on your condition. sounds like you were having a very hard time! You are in my prayers.

I’m back to post another update. My endoscopy only lasted EIGHT days before the stricture returned. This time I knew I would soon be a vomiting lethargic mess. So, I got in to the GI 3 days after it returned and by day 5 I was under for another endoscopy. Well that was on 2/1/18. I had a follow up with my surgeon on 2/5/18 and felt great. I was actually eating more than just water. Well guess what guys! Today is 2/6/18 and the stricture has returned. That’s right. The balloon stretch only lasted 4 days [emoji20][emoji24].

My surgeon and I discussed all of my options yesterday if this were to happen again. We both decided if it lasted only a few weeks (now days) then we would convert from a sleeve to a bypass. If this last procedure had lasted longer we would have done it again, but I can’t keep taking off of work for the procedures and not to mention they are costly.

I’m hesitant to call my doctor and relay the bad news. Partially because I don’t want it to be my reality. But I have to do what’s going to make me better long term.
Wish me luck? Give advice? Idk anymore lol

Thanks for reading [emoji5]

Just so sorry you have to deal with all of this. Best wishes moving forward.

I just thought I’d let everyone know that my surgeon performed a sleeve to bypass revision on 2/13. I have more pain than I did with the sleeve, but feel like a new person.

I'm so sorry your going through this! I hope things get better for you soon...your in my prayers![emoji173]

Wonderful news, rest well and recover. You have been through such an ordeal, time to get your strength back [emoji8]

Thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated. I am looking into the vitamin patches now.

I have not had surgery YET, but currently take protonix and carafate for GERD and it works great. I have to take carafate 4x’s a day.

My heart goes out to you because this could have been any one of us. My main suggestion is PRAY...ask the Lord to cover you and heal you and give you direction...he can do the impossible just talk to him, cry out to him..he already knows hes just waiting for you to give it to him...BY HIS STRIPES YOU ARE HEALED IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME....#prayerchangesthings

Since the bypass I have not had any heartburn or nausea. It’s been pretty amazing. My only regret is not having the bypass the first time around.
